His name is Jerry.
From reading up i believe he is a veil-tail. Hes nothing overly fancy compared to some of the Bettas i have seen on here, but we like him :) . He is currently squatting in my Biorb until i can get him his own tank in a few weeks. Water parameters are still spot on though. He just swims round and round and he and the rasboras just stay out of each others way.

My camera doesnt really pick up all his colours, and he is the hardest fish ever to photograph. He is mostly a blue that looks slightly purple (he was in a tank next to another blue betta and Jerry had a purple shine which is why i chose him), with some odd colour on his head that isnt black (looks it in the pics), but more like a greeny colour scales on a black skin. His flappy down bits at the front (my terminology is amazing) are a reddy purple colour, with white at the bottom. He seems healthy but has definately brightened up in colour since being home. Im excited to see how he develops

It might have been a bad idea to get him, but i am trying not to regret it

He's a lovely colour. What kind of tank are you going to put him in?

no idea. preferably something around the same size because he seems to enjoy the space. need to do some shopping around

ETA: i forgot to add. I know that they need their own little 'place' to call theres, in a sense, and hide in, so i had some of those small terracota pots that aquatic plants come in. Tied them together, added some moss, and he is in one of the pots right now sleeping :D

haha he doesnt have it ALL to himself, just about the 80% he has decided IS his. he shares it with some tiny rasboras that are about 1.5cms, two apple snails currently <1cm and some cherry shrimps that are bigger than the fish

how do you stop a betta eating everything in sight? lol, i know they eat loads, but trying to eat an algae wafer  come on! lol

Ive been feeding him brine shrimp one day, daphnia the next, and i have these micro wafers for the rasbora that he likes but i feel a bit :/ about him eating the wafers. i am soaking them first so he doesnt bloat but his belly always looks massive after

He looks a lot like my male betta, but mine has some red, green, and gold coloring randomly splotched on his blue body.

you could try seperating him while feeding the others. get a betta cup/any small cup, or one of those breeding divider-things to put him in while you feed the others.

would that not stress him out? im having to try and distract him with food at the front of the tank whilst i put food at the back of the tank for my rasboras lol. he eats way faster than them though.

if he is getting all the food be careful. overfeeding is a recipe for disaster for them in general. cut back feeds to a few times a week. maybe time to get him on his own if hes a hog. but he sure is lovely!
cheers

Nice fish! He looks real healthy. How many gallons is he in?

i believe its about 6? not overly big but it'll do for now

Great size :good: I have 3 male bettas in 6 gallon tanks/section of divided tanks and they use all the space and LOVE it.

It would stress him a bit, yes. What I do with my sorority is feed the entire tank the same diet, but vary it day by day. So yesterday they got quality flake, the day before they got tropical pellets, the day before that they got sinking pellets (bettas and tetras dived down for their food) and tomorrow they are getting a mix of brineshrimp and tubifex.

I feed enough that everyone can have some and spread it all over the top, so the bettas can't monopolise the food. In order to feed the catfish and shrimp without the bettas getting too much I feed them both at the same time or turn the lights out and feed the bottom feeders once the bettas and tetras are alseep. Works like a charm.
