I Couldn't Help It!

I have three and they are chubby little thing! But they are a lot of fun to watch. And I can tell you from experience that they ARE social, and you will see them more moving around the tank when they have buddies. Mine is a lot more social now that he has some friends. I do not see why they wouldnt get along with tiger barbs though. Mine get along with convicts and oscars!!

What size tank do you keep yours in? Heck, if your guys can handle oscars, I don't see why Leckles cant handle a few tiger barbs when he has caves. I'll also keep an eye on him to make sure that he is okay.

I have them in a 65g. i used the have them in the 75g with the oscars and jds, till the jds spawned and i had to move fish out of the tank lol

Oh wow! Thanks on the common name. When he jumped out of my tank my roommate said he didnt squeak and I knew that he did. +1 for me!!

I'm finding very mixed information on the featherfin. Anyone know possible reasons as to why I cant place him into my main tank? I've read things from...
-are not social creatures will eat others if more than one is in a tank
-will die if alone super social creatures
-tiger barbs will leave him alone
-he will eat tiger barbs

Thanks Rummy, I honestly couldn't have done it without you guys. I was sure that I was going to move him soon, but because he may get eaten again by the tiger barbs or may eat the tiger barbs, I want to look into it a bit more, just incase the water changes are helping and it is just because he is in a tiny tiny tiny tank, with no filter....

Dieses: I've stalked a few of your posts about these little guys while doing my research. That was the day after I got him from Walmart, so I am not surprised that he was looking a little skinny. I'll have to take another picture as an update for you guys. I was actually worried the third of fourth day about his weight, meaning that I over fed him and that was why he was so mehhh...

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten there is no filter!

65 is def. bigger than 29, which is what I have. I'll probably upgrade within three to four years to around a 55-75 gallon. I've read that these guys can live up to 20 years. Do you think that will be enough time before he gets too big. I would really hate it if I had to give him to a lps because I cant hold him anymore. D:

Well, it has a bottom filter, if that counts. But the media is way too different form my main tank.

I think he should be fine for a little while in the 29g. If you can, I do suggest upgrading as they do seem to enjoy some buddies. I recently added 2 more Featherfins to the tank, and they play! And the smaller ones hang out with my 5 incher like he is the big brother. I really hope you can keep him as they are such great fish. And I want to see a pic of this little guy!

That's 12.7 cm, but my catfish is over 15 cm and he doesn't seem that big Maybe it's the camera's focal length giving it the illusion that the catfish is half a foot long.
edit: actually not half a foot, something like 30 cm.

yeah I'll post a picture as soon as I can. He is starting to grow his little front fin and his dorsal fin now has no white and a little clear fin that seems to be growing back. I'm so excited. I'll be sure to get a picture of him showing off his new body parts.

Those guys are so cute. I'm so glad that I have one of those beasts. They do look huge. Makes me want to make a cave like yours for mine so that I can still see them when they are hiding. (my loaches, now that I have five, are so hard to keep track of. annoys me that I dont know if I still have five .)

Would be cool if he can grow it all back. Or at least part of it. Would look like Jaws.
And wow, he can re-grow the pectoral even though it was missing the main ray. O.O Interesting information, so fish really can re-grow whole fins.

I know that feeling@ The only time i know I have three loaches is at feeding time!!

These pictures were taken right after a partial water change, so as you can see, Leckles is a bit grumpy and not very photogenic.

This is his other side. All I ever post is the bad side.

And this one really shows off his dorsal fin.

There is no side fin and the dorsal fun just looks bad.
