I Complained

So, i can confidently go in tomorrow saying i should have my money back for example

yes you should, bring a water sample and make sure tehy dont use strips.

Sounds like your sterotypical dodgey car salesman, who can tell the fault of a car by kicking the tyre with his foot :sly:

"Yup, looks like your big end's gone. I can fix it, but its gonna be pricey".

The sheer fact that he just took the coral and dumped it straight into the water without aclimatizing it speaks volumes really. That and the fact that he didn't test your water and tried telling you that your near pristine water is to blame.

If you do a weekly water change then you have no need at all to dose with strontium or iodine or trace elements, unless you have an amazingly high amount of corals that are growing at an absurdly fast amount and absorbing all of these ingredients and even then I would guess you'd probably be overdosing.

In short.... He's talking out his ass! Go into his office and lambast him and if he doesn't concede, running out screaming "he fondled my behind, I need an adult and a lawyer!!!!!" :hey:

use a refractometer. I calibrate it before i use it with RO and calibrate with the sloution you recommended once every 2 weeks or so.

Sorry I know its a bit adrift from the topic but how DO you calibrate a refractometer to make sure it keeps working well? What solution do you use every 2weeks?

PS. Sounds like your boss ripped your right off so make sure you have some serious words and dont let him take the micheal again, you make sure you stand strong as you have a right decent argument against him! ;)

thanks for the replies. At first he wasnt buying it. He said "why should i replace it when you killed it?"
"But it was chipping off in the bag, its not my tank water thats doing it.l It was already doing this before it went in my tank?"
"Why didnt you bring it back earlier?"
"I didnt want to complain to Mike(the owner)> You were on holiday for 3 weeks?"
"You should have waited for me!" he laughed
"Well, at the moment im £25 short!"
"Mike charged you 25 quid! Id have charged 10!"
Then he later said we'll see what comes in on Tuesday :) Hopefully he'll give me a hammer coral :yahoo:
1entra, i use this solution that SkiFletch recommended to me http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-06/rhf/index.php

cheers everyone, ill tell you waht happens on tuesday!

BTW i get on well with many boss and he's a really nice guy lol, just that he's not co-operating at the moment!

I would not be buying F all from there again and I would leave if I was you? or are you just staying to get discount?

Cant you go higher? like to his boss tell him you worried that if you not getting good stock then what are the customers saying??

silicone is deadly to corals since when it cures underwater it releases ammonia and other junk.

Assuming it's true aquarium silicone and not just the stuff you use to seal windows etc then I'm pretty sure that's not true...

Yay, i got a toadstool outta him! And he's ordering me in a hammer/anchor coral too :)
The toadstool is only small, probs 3-4 inshes high, but they go for £40 in the shop! Its polyps come out for abit then go back in. Its corners are all up, instead of it being flat out. Is this normal? It went in yesterday and i did a water change today which isnt exactly ideal for it but hey...

might take it a couple days/week to get used to your lighting/flowrate/chemistry

Thanks for the link.

Dont worry about the toadstool, as skifletch it can take a day to a week or so for it to adjust to your tank conditions before it feels happy enough to open!

Its got like whiteish patches on it today....is this a bad sign or is it nothing to worry about?

It's shedding. All but the yellow sarcophytons (Sarcophyton being the genus name for toadstool leathers) could probably survive a nuclear bomb; they are very tough.

Ok cool, so in a couple of days time it should be good? :D
Yesterday i got a couple of small frags, a small hammer the branching type i think), a trumpet and a giant mushromm :)
Today i got a big hammer, and 2 other things that need identifying lol

here's a few pics :)
