Yep, me again. I can't get a break.
I bought 2 platys Wednesday for my 20 gallon ( was going to get 2 female guppies, decided against it due to fighting problems I was having) and I was stupid and didn't quarantine them, so I take full responsibility for this. Today, I saw one of them sitting at the bottom of the tank, then saw these small specs on its tail. The other one had it as well, so I immediately removed them from the tank, not knowing what else to do. I got my old 10 gallon, filled it up 80% of the way, put the old heater on to get around 85, added the filter (and space for it to break the surface) and put in some aquarium salt. However, everywhere I've read says I should treat my actual tank too since the ich is now in there. I would like to use the heat and salt method since I'm not a fan of putting even more chemicals in the water, and I really don't want to go back to the pet store AGAIN. I've been about 5 times in not even a week so I'm a bit tired.
Here's my problem and why I separated the 2 platys. I have 4 cory catfish which I read don't do good with salt... And a bigger problem is I can't raise the heater I have because it's one that doesn't allow me to change the settings. It has no switch or buttons to adjust temperatures but it gets between 78-84. Right now it's 82. So I really don't know what to do and how to treat this. If chemicals are a must, I guess I'll have to resort to that but... I'd really prefer not to. Will temps of 82 be high enough to kill the ones in the main tank, and will temps of about 85-86 and salt treatment cure my 2 infected platys? I'm just having a hard time understanding this all and what the best thing to do for them would be.
Also, none of the other fish are exhibiting signs of ich. They are all eating and acting normal and have no specs, it's just these 2 new ones.Water parameters are good; 0ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite, 5-10ppm nitratte.
Really sorry for spamming again, I've just been having the worst luck after switched to this new 20 gallon so it's always one thing after another.
