A couple of weeks ago, (yes, weeks...) I noticed that my fish had a small case of ich. I put the temp up to around 82F, though my mollies don't seem to handle that temp very well.... I also put some more salt in my tank, even though I have corys. (The corys can handle that, though) I put around 1 teaspoon in for every 2 gallons. I kept on doing my weekly 20-25% water changes, because I recently had a problem with ammonia from using a disease treater. (THAT was not smart ! ) That disease treater made the fish worse, and I got rid of it right away by doing a 50% water change and putting back in the carbon. The 50% water change helped A LOT, but two weeks later, the ich STILL isn't gone! I've already lost like, 10 fish to this ich! It's the worst case I've ever had! Do you know why I can't get rid of it!? A few of my fish are still laying at the bottom of the tank, though they are still alive. I don't know what to do anymore! Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help!

EDIT: It's aquarium salt I used, not table salt

Raise temp to 30 and increase aeration.
I would remove salt as corys can only tolerate a small amount not the full dose.
What med are you using and how long.

Am not using meds, I did at one point, (Jungle Labs Fungus Clear) but that basically killed my fish on-spot. I took most of the salt out, and I did have my temp up that much for a week, but it still didn't go away. Thanks for the help!

You need a medication to get rid of the ich. The parasite is only vulnerable to meds once it has dropped off the fish. The temperature will speed up the time its on the fish, once its fallen off, then you need to medicate. Interpet white spot treatment is good, also Protozin is good for Ich.

Yes, and that's what I'm using the salt for -- it kills the ich once it drops off the fish.

I am having problems getting rid of Ich as well. I have increased the temp to 82 and I am using aquarium salt as well as Quick Cure for almost a week now and instead of the Ich disappearing they are getting more spots. I am also doing gravel vacs every other day. I have the carbon filter out of the aquarium as well so the meds can work. Any advice?

increase the airflow dramatically, this will keep the fish breathing if the ich parasite has spread into the gills, i used interpet white spot treatment, it is very good but you have to be patient with it and hope for the best. i was lucky, my dad brought back 2 pure oxygen bottles from work and i linked them up. my clown loach must have been high :good:

But in this case, its not actually working. Try a med.

Okay -- have followed the directions perfectly to a couple meds, they didn't work. It made the fish worse. I think that about a couple weeks after stopping meds, my fish are doing better now. Still a bit of ich, but at least they are starting to show normal fish behaviour now. Thanks for all the help! :good:

Good advice! That's hilarious! Things are starting to look up in my tank now! :good:

If you stopped meds and they are doing better then you probably didn't have ich as ich doesn't just go away on its own. You may have something else besides ich. High temps and salt are supposed to kill ich but I haven't had luck with that either.

Hmm... don't know about that one...

Best Ich medicine I have ever used---AQUARI-SOL. Has the added bonus of not staining silicone sealant on your tanks blue also. I've used it anytime I have had an ich outbreak and the parasites are gone off the fish in a matter of a couple days tops. Remember to still keep treating though after the parasites are off the fish to kill any free swimmers that haven't attached themselves to the fish and so that newly hatched parasites get eradicated also. I usually treat for 14 days even though the parasites are usually off the fish in 2 days max. I haven't had an Ich problem in a long time though.

THanks for that info. I have never heard of it or seen it at the LFS near me. May have to order some.
