I bought a Pea Puffer Carinotetraodon imitator. It's not listed in the PUFFER POST. Any one know anything? It's fresh waster mini-mini puffer.

BUMP!

Anyone? Cm'om Puffer People!
How do I care for my little Puffer. I've always wanted one, and I don't want it to be unhappy. It's in a 18 gal tank with three albino corys, and two matting rams!

What do I need to know, yo!

~Jen

A quick Google search told me that this is a dwarf puffer. Having said that, I have never kept puffers so other than what Google told me, I have no idea about their care.

Hi Jen. Congrats on entering the wonderful world of puffers :D

Carinotetraodon imitator is basically the same as Carinotetraodon travancoricus (or Tetraodon travancoricus), there is still debate on whether they are a seperate species or just a variant, but for all intents and purposes they are the same fish.
Depending on the personality of your individual puffer, you may have trouble with the little gaffer going after the other fish's fins. A quick look at some of the other posts about Dwarf puffers should answer any questions you may have.

Thanks! I've already seen him pick at my Cory’s! Puffer Man! I'll puff his *ss from out side the tank - com'er! (HA-HA) I still like him; he sits under the plants and moved hit tail and eyes about. So little; so cute!

I look for Dwarf posts.

Thanks!
~Jen

P.S. "SirMinion" thanks for the tutorial, I needed a good lesson on my forum spelling! Oh, I do intend on attempting to catch the Ram fry before their parents eat them too.

BUMP!

I've read a little on the Dwarf Puffer. I will keep an eye on my puffer man, and if he get's too nippy, I will move him into a solitary 5 gal talk. I wouldn't know what else to do with him if the Puffer is too fish fin destructive.

How's that idea; if the Puffer gets that bad?

~Jen

Sounds like a perfect back up plan, your little puff-man would be pleased as punch to have a 5 gal all to himself.

  ...my wife used to chase our Dwarves with the net handle when they picked on her Gouramis (when we first got dwarves we were told they work well in community tanks :grr: )...the puffers started to make a game of it. I swear they would wait for my wife to enter the room and then latch onto a gourami's tail and go for a ride, as soon as they saw her heading towards the tank with the net they would line up to play "jump through the hoop" ...looked like they were having a blast

Well, I came home from a motorcycle ride just now, and I saw the Puffer sneek up on my oldest Cory and nip his tail. Puffer turned to the other two Cory's and the Cory's scattered before the Puffer got near. Then the Puffer just turns and swims back to it's "hole".

I think I'll have to get that 5 gal for him! It's not fair to the Cory's or the Rams that I want to get them to breed!

Ahhhh.... another tank set up :/

Thanks for the info on the Puffer being okay alone!

Just want to warn you that, if your 5 gallon tank is not yet cycled, your puffer will not fare very well. Puffers are not good for cycling a tank, and probably wouldn't survive. If your little guy does manage to survive, he'd be in rough shape for a little while. I don't know how you'd get around it, though, if he doesn't deal well in your other tank. Good luck!

You waited a grand total of 14 minutes.. You need to be a little more patient and not worry about keeping your topic at the top.

You should never be too sure of what puffer you have. My LFS told me the GSP I have is a dwarf puffer. Try and get a pic of it..

Yeah, agreed, people will answer when they're ready, and if they're anything like me, they'll also keep scrolling down to try and see everyones!

P.S to Godric! I like your GSP! :D I know I keep saying it, but I do!!!! :*)

I cycled the water in the 5 gal for 24 hours. Then I added an equal amount of 50% to take the place of 50% of the 5 gal, from the water from the 18 gal; where the puffer was. With that said, I took 50% of the 5 gal water out, that had been cycling for 24 hours, in order to add 50% from the 18 gal tank water. The puffer seems to be doing fine in his 5 gal tank. I will be watching the puffer for sure!

Are you shure that it isn't a dwarf puffer fish. I have never even hered of a pea puffer before :dunno:
