I Am Back With New Cory Cats

I have these awesome little Cory cats in a 20 gal long with other tiny things RCS, galaxy danio, 2 Otto, pair or sparkling gourami. This is one of my favorite tanks to watch.

Here are some photos. Anyone have these guys?

No sand to dig in here but there is lots of HC to play in.

Yep I have some and they can get to a nice size, no where near the size of say a Peppered but still large enough to look after themselves in relation to other suitable tank mates. Great little fish

I have habrosus, mines a chunky 1.5 inch now,i assume fully grown i was very tempted the other day to add more when i seen loads of these in MA at 6 for £12.... which for them is cheap

At least you can get them ,over here they are no way near common and a lot of pet shops think they are being daring offering albinos, peppered or bronze cory's for sale. One of the reasons I would love my 5 to breed, one of the females is nice and large and chunky so maybe I just have to wait for the males to mature a bit more. Fingers crossed.

One of mine is pretty big 1 inch. the others are so cute and little. I have them with cherry shrimp and hope they don't get too big and eat too many baby shrimp.

I have recently bought some of these for my gf. I was just wondering what your set up is for the HC to grow? We're trying to get a nice carpet going, but it's fairly lack luster as is, am considering ripping it out and going for HC...

My litle Cory cats are still doing well. I hope they will be ok when most of the ground is HC.

Growing HC you need to not give up I almost did. When I first got it so much died off. I thought it would never grow. It looks brown and just awful. Then the bits that lived started to take root and now I have a thick carpet that is still growing.

I don't care what some people on here say about plant substrate. I belevie strongly that some plants need nurtrant substrate HC is one of these heavy root feeding plants. So to start you need a good plant studstrate adding root tabs to get it started does not hurt. I have a good amount of light I run DIY co2 and dose my tank with a few different kinds of ferts. I add excel too for that little added co2 bust.

HC needs a rich substrate, good light, and a little extra co2 nothing too crazy adding just excel helps. also trim it. You want to keep it short so it sends out roots and spreads and does not just grow up. Trimming is the key to a thick HC carpet.

This is a full tank shot. This tank is new and still has some growing to do. Like the moss on the branch for one. but the HC was transferred from my old 10gal. It's already Creeping out more and filling it. I am not sure if I should let it?

Corys have a tendancy to rip up HC as they nuzzle around in the substrate. Not a plant i would put in a cory tank, but im sure some people manage.

My HC is so well rooted I have a hard time pulling it up. SO I don't see that being a problem with dwarf cory cats. BUT I understand that Corys like to to dig around in Sand and dirt. Plants are not a natural ground cover they are not made for searching in plants. So that could be a problem once the HC takes over.

They are Habrosus Corys. yes they are very cute.

That's much too small a tank for corydoras. I'd go for at least a 10-15g, and even that's a bit squished for them.

I got 25 bronze fry in a 30 litre tank, they are about the size of the pygmys, probably a little bigger now and when they get spooked there really isnt much room for them to "run and hide". 60 litres, you could get away with 8 of them, with pygmys, more is always better.
