i feel so horrible, and i just wanted to warn people so nobody else does something this stupid. i have several betta tanks in the kitchen and they have always been fine. they are all covered so stuff can't get in, and it is the warmest room in the house so we don't have heaters, just the heat from the incadescent lights. yesterday morning i got up and put dinner in the crock pot and had it on the counter infront of two of my betta tanks(i use it there all the time) and apparently the one tank that was about a foot behind it must have gotten all the heat. when i got home from work i stirred the food in the crock pot and saw my poor little sparky laying on the bottom of his tank. when i took the top off to see what was going on the water was over 100degrees. i don't understand why it did it this time because i have used the crockpot before in the same place and it never even raised the temp. i feel horrible. :-(

rest in peace little sparky, mommy is so sorry. :byebye:

That's so sad. I'm sorry for your loss. Try not to blame yourslef because it was an accident and now you have given others the foresight to prevent making a similar mistake.

aww i'm so sorry for your loss :( Sparky knows it was an accident and he knows your sorry and he also knows you loved him loads

RIP Sparky :-(

Sorry for your loss, Karri.

I had a similar incident, but it was using a George Foreman Grill. :/

So sorry for your loss :(

I have my bettas in the kitchen and am so careful when I have my microwave on as its fairly close to them. Keep constantly checking the temperature doesn't rise!

thank you for your responses, i wouldn't be so bad but my 14 year old daughter was standing next to me and she looked at him and said gee momma, i think you cooked him

Sorry for your loss also, I would really think of a better room for your fish...

Sorry to hear that. Don't be too hard on yourself. I've almost cooked my bettas as well; I left them in direct sun light during summer months. Amazingly, they survived.... tough little fish.
