Hunting Thread!

Nice dear!! Congrats!

You didn't really shoot them in the spine, did you??? I just caught that in the above message. I don't know how a crippled dear would run at all. Why not shoot the heart or lungs (or head) for a quick death instead of crippling them? That seems awfully cruel. If they were accidentally shot in the spine the gun was not sighted in right, risky shots were taken, or someone is simply a bad shot lol. Four shots at the second doe before hitting it??

I shot my buck this year in the heart and he dropped. My buck last year in the lungs and he didn't make it 100ft. The year before doe in the head and she dropped, and before that, another lung shot to a buck didn't make it 100ft. My point is, a shot to the vitals (heart, lung, or brain) is MUCH quicker and less painful than crippling them and you kill them with one shot.
Yah... That sounded really painful and like a cruel death in my opinion...

You should help! You shoot the dear, you help process it.:thumbs:

Not actually, but I wish lol. You have to buy a license. The Youth license are relatively cheap being under 10 dollars depending but the bonus is much more expensive hitting around $20.00. Then you also must think of the time involved in sitting out in the stand.
I love helping to process the deer. We used 3 out of 5 tags (My family party hunts) so hopefully my 2 cousins get something. I will shoot another deer if it shows up at our place, though.

Yes, it kills them but it keeps them from running. My dad shot one last year but didn't hit the spine so we had to search for a long time to find his deer.
Well no. What I mean is did you do an instant-kill shot the first time?... Cause that is really bad if they are still running after being shot. Sounds kinda cruel

Mine dropped right down but my dad shot his deer fatally the first time but he has learned to keep shooting until their down so he hit it's spine the 2nd time within a few seconds

Oh, nice! What do you make out of it? We do burgers with the scraps, tenderloins and backstraps are steaks, a few roast out of the hind quarters, jurkey, and salt and dehydrate.

That sounds absolutely delicious....

Ehh... If you get them in the vitals they will either drop or run 100 ft or so. I don't get the whole spine thing, if you miss the spine (and the lungs below) you will be in the dead spot, and the dear will live. If you aim behind the shoulder you've got the lungs and heart and a larger lethal shot zone. To each their own I guess..
