Humane Killing

When I first got my aquarium I bought too many fish and many of the wrong kinds. I had many to find homes for, and it took a little effort, but I found a good home (sometimes the lfs) for every single unwanted fish. You should never absolutely HAVE TO kill a healthy fish.

Freezing has been proven by the AVMA (did I get the right initials lol?) to be inhumane. They can feel their blood/organs crystalising and it causes severe pain.

Smashing the head with a brick/heavy object is the only quick and therefore humane method IMO. It's not nice, but sometimes it's necessary. Much more preferable than leaving them to suffer - in their own tank or not.

All of the above is said as if the fish is sick. If there is nothing wrong with the fish, there is no excuse for killing it. Euthanising sick fish is one thing, being too lazy/impatient to go to the LFS or find a home for a healthy fish is another.
