How’s the weather?

The Canadian fires have had an effect. There was one locally and we hoped for rain. So it has rained close to non stop since, for several weeks. Sometimes the rain stops, and fog banks come in from the sea.
I'm bemused, but not complaining. We could be experiencing the afterlife in Texas.
In 2 weeks this time I'll be in Africa close to the equator in a rainforest during dry season, so I can get all the heat I want there.

With all the rain though, we have mosquitoes galore. And black flies, who normally disappear by early June. There aren't many of them, but there are too many.

Dogs pant it out, and I think sweat via their feet - the pads. My old dog used to dig trenches and bury herself in fresh powder snow with her nose sticking out, and we'd have to bring her back in. In summer, she would be a puddle of fur for weeks - very inactive.

The fish around here digest very slowly in cold weather, taking a long time to have food clear through. In tropical species, many can't digest above their temperature range, as their digestive enzymes are temperature sensitive. A number of fish we like will go extinct because of that, as global temperatures rise.

Mosquitos in Canada? I would not have expected that.

We haven't had measurable rain in weeks, so the mosquito population (usually atrocious here) has been kept in check

I'm not a big fan of rain, but it's the only relief from the heat we'll get at this point

Currently 96F in my (wide open) garage, and it's not even noon yet...

SlapHappy - the DFW forecast has one day below 100 in the next 10 days, and that is today. I finally got half an inch of rain, mesquite will bloom soon, there will be a fall honey harvest.

Let's hope ERCOT has their "stuff" straight this year...it's only July

How are members in the UK being affected by Storm Babet?

Here in Teesside we've had strong winds but the yellow rain alert didn't happen - we've had drizzly rain all day rather than the torrential rain and floods in other places; and the funfair which arrived this week was closed this evening due to the wind. From reading the local news, it's mainly the coastal areas that have been affected here - towns such as Hartlepool and Redcar with the sea being blown on land.

It rained heavily for 9 hours last night. There were traffic jams due to some flooded roads. Some people didn't get into work. Buses were running late. Train tracks were like canals.

A man died when he got swept away in a flash flood. The water rose several feet in minutes. People saw him go in and called the emergency services but he was gone. :(

I read about that and the two people in Scotland :( The east of Scotland has been badly affected. I feel for those in all regions who have been flooded out of their homes.

Here in South Wales we have escaped it all.
Its rained Quite a bit the last few days but sunshine this afternoon.
Looking at the pictures on the BBC news is saddening - I do feel for those unfortunate to be caught up in this latest storm and for some its not the first time they have been flooded out and lost everything.

It finally rained here, only a couple of inches. I am checking my french drains and pond levels today, before we get more tonight

Here in the Northeast US, it’s 72 degrees. Going to be sunny and 79 F on friday. Perfect weather and above normal.

It's been a very long, pleasant fall here. The long-range forecasts keep saying it's about to get cold and snowy, but it hasn't happened yet. I hope winter holds off a couple more weeks, because halloween is a lot more fun for the kids if they don't have to put their costumes on over snowsuits, and traveling next week will be more fun if I don't have to drive icy roads.

Tomorrow is supposed to reach 20c, but earlier in the week, it was below zero at night. We're into the roller coaster, but even with the majority of the leaves down, it is absolutely beautiful out there. This is a fantastic time of year.

When the morning light comes through the red and yellow leaves of the maple out front, it makes our open space living room and kitchen just glow.

Starting in about 3 hours we, in Sheridan WY, are supposed to get 11-12 hours of steady snow but it is supposed to be light with an accumulation of only 3-6 inches. Highs are in the mid 20s but supposed to be back in the mid to upper 30s come Sunday and back to the mid to upper 40s by Tuesday if one were to actually believe long range forecasts. ;)
