The Canadian fires have had an effect. There was one locally and we hoped for rain. So it has rained close to non stop since, for several weeks. Sometimes the rain stops, and fog banks come in from the sea.
I'm bemused, but not complaining. We could be experiencing the afterlife in Texas.
In 2 weeks this time I'll be in Africa close to the equator in a rainforest during dry season, so I can get all the heat I want there.
With all the rain though, we have mosquitoes galore. And black flies, who normally disappear by early June. There aren't many of them, but there are too many.
Dogs pant it out, and I think sweat via their feet - the pads. My old dog used to dig trenches and bury herself in fresh powder snow with her nose sticking out, and we'd have to bring her back in. In summer, she would be a puddle of fur for weeks - very inactive.
The fish around here digest very slowly in cold weather, taking a long time to have food clear through. In tropical species, many can't digest above their temperature range, as their digestive enzymes are temperature sensitive. A number of fish we like will go extinct because of that, as global temperatures rise.
