so i have always wanted to breed corydoras but i never had the time money and tank untill now so if anyone can help me with this i have done a few hours of research and i think it is a reasonable new project to start. i do understand about all the young and the food they need and all that stuff because i am breeding bettas so i have brine shrimp eggs a large tank for the babys a place that i can sell the babys when they get the right size so i have a cory but i cant tell if it is a male or female and that is the first thing to do (i know they need groups but i am posting this post to see what new company i should get mine) o ya i have a twenty gallon for them and a few smaller tens for the babys(like three) so i need to know how to sex corydoras.

the cory i have is this one: Corydoras trilineatus is it easy to breed and does it like driftwood
because i have alot especialy for fish

females are fatter

assuming a boy and girl are same length, the dorsal fin on male is taller

read the article in 'of special interest'

or any of the existing threads on breeding...

Hello, You can sex out many corys. You first put them in a small bowl of tank water. Look down on them. the male will be narrow and the female will be more robust. When spawning corys they do much better in a group of 6. You will want to feed them on lots of live food. change water in the breeding tank at about 1/2 the tank. Do this every few days lower the temp by as much as 5 to 7*. Add about 4 air stones to get the tank it helps get the water moving and puts a lot of air. The best time to get them to start spawning is to do this on a day when clouds roll in and the barometric pressure drops. This helps to keep things more natural for them. You can have most corys breeding this way. I like to add rain water to my tanks at the same time. I find that it works very well and they spawn very soon after. Good luck and I hope this helps. Have fun and make sure to post if you get them spawning.

The females have an arched looking belly and can't lie flat on the substrate. :/
Have a look at them when resting and looking straight into your eyes :hey: If a female, the head will be raised from the substrate and you'll see her belly from the front.
The females are of course bigger than the males but if you buy your fish at different time and source then it's hard to tell as they'll all can be different age.

This is a thread from a while back. I've got some good pictures of my cories and a lot of very helpful responses from members.
