Hi I'm wondering if anyone can tell if a male apistogramma cacatuoides is able to breed by size it's one of the ones I raised from fry but I can't remember when it was hatched

The female is in charge, and there, you look to the black pectorals and yellow body. That guy is in full colour, but there is no guarantee a female will have him. You find out by trying... and watching closely.

Definitely large enough.

It’s definitely up to the female so just make sure they have a couple small caves to choose from and let nature take it’s course.

Just for reference he is only about the size of his mother maybe even slightly smaller

There is the question of fertility at that size, and the danger that in a small tank, she'll kill him if she decides he's useless to her. As long as he's around, she'll interpret that as a block to a better mate moving in, and she'll take care of business as she sees it.
But I have had small males partially fertilize broods. You might get 25% of the eggs fertilized at that age, if he's ready.

If you can sex the fish, they are sexually mature and can breed. The fish in the picture is a definite male and has decent fins, so he can breed.

Thank you
