I'm thinking of going down the Malawi cichlids road with my new tank. But just thinking.
Have a few questions though.

I have heard that when you buy them, you need to get a load in the .1 go, because if you add new 1's to a tank of existing Malawi, they will kill it... Is this true?

And, I have a heap of bogwood I fairly recently bought, and am not willing to get rid of it. Will that be a problem? I know bogwood can help keep PH lower, and I'm in Scotland, our PH is 7 straight from the tap.

Like I say, I'm just thinking about this, I haven't even got the tank yet, but I would love to try something a bit different this time round.

Any help/criticism at all would be greatly appreciated.

Gary

Edit. I should also add the tank is going to be a jewel 180 corner tank and the filter is from my existing rena 240 which has been running for years, so no need to go through the whole cycling regime.

Hmm, ok. That would be nice. And its the same tank as mine. But still not really much help in regards to my scape options and Malawi cichlids in general

when we kept them we would normaly add a few at a time kinda spread any aggression try not to add fish the same colour as the exsiting fish turn out the lights can still go bad depends on the temp of the fish you have and are adding

Cheers NMT, that's good to know. Makes sense, not adding in the same colour of fish to existing tankmates.

I am still unsure about water hardness. I really love my bogwood and plants in my tank but I know I will need to put something in there to keep the water nearer PH8 and not PH6 which is what it normally sits at.

Anybody any ideas?
