I was thinking, whats the smallest tank I can have one of these lookers. LFS has a few that people dont want due to them all being male and they have reached size to terrorize any and all tank mates. I was thinking of taking in one when I have a 4 foot tank and my 29 USG is empty.

A 4 foot tank could mean 40 gal to 120 gal. So how big is your tank?

Im not sure how big it'll be, but im moving my 29 stock to it. I was wondering more on if I can put it in my 29 when it's empty. It's typical 29, smae height and depth of a 55 but 30" long

Minimum size tank, 55g, 4ft, a 29g isnt large enough for a large robust fish like a GT.

all a 29 USG is is a 30" long 55 USG. They only max at 8", right?
better than the 12" cubes they are kept in at LFS. These are fully grown fish.

You asked the minimum size tank, Im just giving you the answer, what you choose to do is entirely up to you. If your happy fitting a large aggressive cichlid in a small tank then that is your perogative.

On their own, a minimum 3ft 200L tank. 29G is far too small. If you wanted any tank mates you'd need to go bigger. GT's occupy all space in the tank, top to bottom, and don't just stick in one area. The more space the better for these fish, and then you can get something else to go with them.

Stunning fish, I have a female I've grown up from a weeny titch to an impressive 5" (almost full grown for a female), and they are very rewarding IF challenging to find tankmates for

I am just putting one in and nothing else. I am sure I have efficient filitration, and do %50 W/C on the tank weekly anyway. I know they occupy all spaces and I am helping one of the 8-9 full grown males that are confined to small spaces at LFS. All the males their have been through many fish tanks the employess say. I just want to help one of these bold, beautiful guys out.

It's good that you want to rehome one, and they are amazing fish, but 100L is just not big enough for a full grown adult male. How big are they? Males get to about 8" I think. What's the length of your tank?

I really feel you'd be better off getting a larger tank, plus good filtration, and only doing 20-30% w/c weekly. I find the bigger w/c can stress fish out.

It's difficult as I can see where you're coming from, and yes, you'd be doing a good deed by rehoming one of these guys, but to fully appreciate them and for them to be happy and flourish they need more room then a 100L tank.

its 30" long and 12" wide. I have 3 filters, 2x Aquatech 20-40, and a Fluval 1 plus internal, equalling 92 gallons of filitration. I'm just wanting help one of these fish, If I find him looking crowded in my tank, I will advertise him on the forum and make sure he fiunds a good home. I just want to help these guys. When I get a job next summer, I am going to work at LFS and earn up money for a big tank.

The tank room is a lfs is like the leg room on an airplane. I doubt anybody would like to stay that way for life.

I kept a male alone in a 120g (4x2x2), and it looked just about right. A 75g may be ok for life too. Not quite sure about a 55.

I decided against it. I'll rescue the Boucorti they have instead.

No they don't, all sites I have seen is 6", plus I asked about a medium sized central american cichlid and bocourti was recomended

Edit: I see, guess I was wrong, almost bought these guys a few months ago. I'm reciving conflict info bout some of these fish.
