All cory fins are sharp. I always put another bag over a bag with corys in it. My goldfish also discovered how sharp the fins were, and it almost killed him.

corys do have spiney fins, its not normaly an issue but you were just unlucky,

we were moving tanks yesterday and i had to cath our raphiael catfish (you cant use a net as they get caught up in them and can get injured, so you need to grab the dorsal fin to remove them) and he got me with his spines now that hurt

hmmm intresting thanks i was lucky it happened in the shop cuz it takes 4 hours to get home from that shop........i had 3 Pictus catfish now only one cuz of of error made with careing for them but one thing i wish the stupied pet store told me cuz saw this bit of info that says they have sharp barbs that are poison and its best to take the out of the tank useing a glass or some thing cuz they may get caught up in a net the pet store never said any thing about poison or nets that makes me mad.... the cory i have seem to sit most of the day in a cave all of the just all most one on top of each other i wounder what there thinking or if they talk to each other

if there new to the tank there probably scared, when i`ve intoduced corys to my tanks they tend to run and hide for a day or so then when they settle become much more active

oh the main ones that stay in the cave are the first lot of cory 6 of them there all bronz cory i have 4 difrent kinds of cory liveing in my tank the cave is what i call cave cory cuz most of the 6 bronz cory are always siting there just about ontop of each other the other typ come in and say hi some times so dose the Pictus catfish but they seem to like being lazy or maby :hey: they are Prehistoric cave cory that have not gone throo evolution

I had the same thing with my talking catfish (striped) I moved him to a new tank, and as you said nets are a pain with them coz of the spines.
I am also a fisherman, well used to be, and have always picked up fish around their mid-section as its safer for the fish and you have a better grip of them.

the catfish the locked his pectoral fins against his sides, and my fingers were behind them, so I got a load of nice sharp pains in my fingers as the pectoral fin spines and body spine dug in. not his fault more mine really.

just for the record its easier to use a tupperware. when i realized how big they get i moved mine from my 10 gallon to my 55 that way. which reminds me that i havent seen him for months

Hi Fizban :)

That reminds me of something that happened to me when I was buying C. sterbai.

I was the first customer a new employee had to wait on. After putting up with my picking out just the fish I wanted, he bagged them up nicely, with lots of air in the bag. Just then we heard a "bang" that sounded like a gunshot! It was the bag exploding when one of the cory's fins penetrated it. The next thing you know, there were a half dozen corys and the whole bag of water on the floor.

That was a couple of years ago and we still laugh about it from time to time.

sorry i have not replyed for abit my computer fryed and had reinstall every thing buy new hard ware and stuff dame storm ......hmm so it seems cory fins are sharp i must say i was thinking maby the bag just had a hole in it and they were useing cheap bags or some thing .....i dont trust the shop that much cuz when i first went and got some fish i picked out about 6 fish 3 difrent typs i was silly and trusted the guy to get them out and bag them with out me watching the whole time half way home or 2 hours later i check them out and one of the fish was all rips and cuts over its body the only thing that could do that damage was net and half the skin was missing from one side it died a day later i live 4 hours away from the pet store so i was not going to go all the way back there to tell them what happen i only go there about 2 or 3 times a year and i only go there cuz they have a lot of difrent kinds of fish ...i think the guy that got my fish out this time was a fish lover cuz he was talking about stuff that has to do with fish that a worker dose not realy need to no or say
..............................................................................oh and Inchworm were all the corys that were on the floor okay?

My BAD lfs, gee i never go there anymore. I asked for 5 bronze cories and 2 thick lipped gouramies. The guy in there went iver got 5 out put them in a bag. THEN a load of water started gushing out the bag. So he got another and then that started. Then the cories all got out on the counter and on the floor. He could only find the 2 on the counter so he went. "Oh better go get you some more i suppose" and totally forgot about the other 3. Needless to say that was the last time i bought fish from them :D

Hi Fizban :)

I'm sorry to hear about your computer, but glad to see that you are back online already.

The fish were all fine, but the noise (like a balloon popping) startled everyone.

Another thing that sometimes happens is that corys can get their pectoral fins caught in nets. When this happens, the only thing you can do is cut the net. If you cut a big chunk out of it, you can free the fish and then later net him out, put him in a shallow bowl, and then hold the net part while you cut it away from the fin. This will give him a chance to calm down a bit and dragging a small piece of the net won't hurt him.

This is not too unusual and the first time it happened to me I thought he would end up wearing his green "tutu" for the rest of his life. :hyper: I was afraid to hold him because I was sure I would squeeze him too much. Then it occurred to me that if I confined him to a small area I would be able to complete the procedure while he stayed underwater.

One thing about keeping corys...................they are never boring! :fun:

true corys do some funny things some times i have one Pictus catfish in there thats slowly geting bigger im going to get him out of there soon cuz i was told that when they get biger they will eat the cory  but at the moment they are friends and tend to sleep in the same place and race after the food that i drop right by the cave
but at the moment the Pictus catfish has started to eat more and is realy fast about it so i feed them more now but it was funny seeing 4 of the bigger cory get togeter 2 on top of each other and the other 2 blow and then start pushing the catfish away from all the food so they all could eat
