How Old Is This Kitten?

I think hes fugly in a cute way, or something like that. :look:

 Rowdy looks just like the black one from my litter. We call him Buckwheat since my sister was watching the Eddie Murphy skit on an SNL video we had while we were thinking of names. It was either that, or in leu of recent controversy, Imus after Don Imus. We have a nasty sence of humor in our house and we are fond of good examples of irony.

I really hope Rowdy does well. He's had a tough little life it seems. Mine were more lucky, they were found in my shed and only one has an eye infection. Buckwheat, in one eye, which I'm treating too. But I got lucky, no fleas or at least very few. They keep peeing on each other though, and I actually think the ammonia from the pee is killing the fleas. Good to know pee is good for something.

PS: they sell KMR in a powdered form at PetsMart and PetSupermarket. You can reconstitute it and it has a much longer shelf life than the canned KMR that is also sold. The powdered form stores for 3 months in the fridge. When reconstituted, it is good for 24 hours. The liquid canned form is only good for 72 hours after opening, if you stick it in the fridge.

I will agree with everyone else on his age , his eyes are still glazy too which would suggest he is about 2-3 weeks old. If you ever find him cold , make sure you warm him up again before feeding him. That usually only happens if they get weak. He looks lively and well except his eyes. Clean them well with some warm water and a cotton ball. Don't use the same cotton ball on each eye , always use a clean one when switching eyes. Then if you have any meds for his eyes use that.

He is a feisty little thing! He likes to knaw on my fingers and try to crawl up my shoulder and on my head. He is getting so fast at crawalking (hehe), too, and he climbed out of his box, so I had to tape the flaps up so that it was taller.

Yeah, they're like little toddlers, constantly putting things in their mouths too.

When he's bigger, a spare bathroom's tub is a great place to put them, as the box can get pretty stinky after a while. The sides are frictionless, so they have a much harder time climbing out and it is easy to clean. Also, newspaper is the most fantastic thing ever! I use it to line the bed and as early, super cheap litter. I just grab the free local gazettes and stuff like that. Cut it into strips to put in the litter box.

Seeing as we only have one functioning tub (its a long story), I can't do that. I have a 3 feet by 3 feet rabbit cage I plan to set up for him (indoors, of course). When should I switch him from the box to the cage?

When should I switch him from the box to the cage?

When his head can't fit through the bars. Seriously, you take width of the squeezed head (ears back) and then reduce it by like half an inch and that's the smallest gap they can squeeze through. They can fit into some tiny, tiny spaces. They are suicidal escape artists at the kitten stage. If you can reinforce the cage with cardboard, do it.

Any updates on the kitten's progress? And how are you holding up with all the smoke? My sister went to Tallahassee (sp) Yesterday, and there was smoke everywhere.

The kitten (now named Rowdy) is doing great, and is walking very well now, and eating like a pig, lol. He is in the rabbit cage with his box with the heating pad, and a litter box. His eyes are cleared up, and he isn't taking meds anymore. I might post some pics tonight if I get around to it.

The smoke cleared up here a few days ago, due to the winds shifting, so for now we are ok. :)
