Got frozen brine shrimp for all my cichlids , they love them! They eat them all within like a minute. I know people say 1 time a week for those. Is there a reason why? It’s so much easier/cleaner when I feed them the shrimp.

Thoughts on this?

I used to feed them a few times a week, when I could get them cheaply. It all depends on what Cichlids you're feeding them to - different diets for different species and groups.

Different types of mbuna. And if brine shrimp aren’t the best type special food for them , what is?

Adult brine shrimp aren't particularly nutrient dense. That's the main reason to limit feedings. You could also try frozen daphnia or krill for something with a little more nutritional value.

I do a mix of frozen brine & bloodworms ( shrimp cocktail ) that I mix up in a dedicated shaker bottle with RO water... I had 2 unexplained deaths, feeding the cubes directly into the tank... I have no idea if it was glorified brain freeze, or just they were too concentrated at the cube, & those fish got too many... anyway, no issues when I shake them, as they thaw, & spread evenly around the tank... I wouldn't be afraid of twice a week, but I try to vary their diet as much as possible... so it's usually about once a week for me...,

When I feed frozen food I rinse it first in R/O water . I have a fine mesh brine shrimp net for that . When you melt your frozen foods prior to feeding , especially frozen brine shrimp , look at the cloudy water in the cup . That should give you the creeps . You don’t know what the manufacturers water is like especially now that all this stuff comes from China . I think Brine Shrimp Direct collects in The Great Salt Lake but not sure about that .

@Back in the fold ... I look at the juice in a frozen cube, like soup broth... you may be rinsing away a lot of the nutrition... when the shrimp freeze, I'd suspect like other things with moisture in the cells, those burst, when expanding during freezing... so, like soup broth, gets a lot of the good stuff, from the components in the soup, I'm betting a lot of the juice from a frozen cube contains the good stuff... it could also contain some bad stuff, but since the cubes are designed to be popped out and fed, any water should be generally acceptable to feed... & rinsing them out, may be getting rid of a lot of the good stuff that's listed on the nutritional analysis... by diluting it in RO water, I'm at least diluting it...

I wonder where I can get some little tiny spoons so my fish can eat their soup ? I get what you’re saying but I disagree . Frozen food ain’t that great to start with so that’s why you mix it up with live food and quality prepared foods . I’m willing to rinse away any good that may be there to get rid of pathogens that are known to be there . Somebody around here said there’s frozen BBS in with the adult frozen brine but I’m skeptical of that too .
