Methinks I'll keep my girlie in the one gallon for a while. I'm pretty broke, much as I'd like some more, I doubt I'll affford them :p So, how often should I do water changes? She gets fed a lot, but only because she eats like a pig. Very little falls to the bottom, if any. Also, theres some 'rust' like stuff in Hannibals tank. Its not brown algae, what is it, is it harmful, how do I get rid of it?

3 full water changes a week for a fish that eats like a pig should be good. It's probably a little much, but I think it's pretty reasonable, and should keep the water clean and her healthy.

i usualy do 2 a week on my babies (they r in quart ball jars) and they seem happy my others in random size tanks get 1 every saturday

I do my 2 1/2 gallon tanks once every 12 to 14 days without a problem.
I do watch their food intake and there is never any left over food items
on the bottom of the tank. The amonia levels run about 0.50 at the end of the
14 days.

Give it a good scrubbing with full water change once a week. I do my one gallon every other day, every two days max, but once a week is the minimum I would go. I have cats though so their fur gets in places it shouldn't. It makes me feel good knowing they have clean water constantly though, and they are quite used to the constant changes.

I do full water changes on my tanks about once every 5-6 days without any problems :)
