I came across a post on another forum, and since I spend all my time here and found this one first on google I felt we should run a post like this here.

Personally, I got lucky with my first tank, but here are my costs:

30 Gallon Long:
Tank - Free
Filter - $25.00 (petco...)
Heater - $20.00 (walmart)
Gravel - $10.00 (walmart switched to sand, but the sand was extra from the 55)
Hood - $36.00 (petco...)

$91

That is the cheap one. :/

55 Gallon:
Tank - $50.00
Heater - $20.00
Filter - $25.00
Sand - $5.00
Flourish Tabs - $30.00
Lighting - $70.00 (so far and not done yet)
Stand - $30.00

$230

Niether of these include fish or plants. :/

Please post yours also. Just so people can get an idea of costs....

10 gallon: $50 with everything (lighting, heating, filter, etc) and sand, fish, etc.
30 gallon: $150 with everything and sand, fish, etc.
30 gallon 2: $75 with everything (got the tank, stand, heater, filter, lighting for $50)

That doesn't include water or treatment either.

200g

Tank: £220
Covers: £55
Stand: DIY with materials from work £0
Filters: Two new at £70 each and one second hand at £30 (£170)
Heaters: Two at £18 each (£36)
Powerhead and water polishing sleeve £21
Lights: 2 60watt ballasts £25 each, 1 36watt ballast £12 + 3 reflectors £23 and 3 tubes £33 (£118)
30 watt UV steriliser: £90
Substrate and decor: Unknown, in the region of £300 or more

Total around £1010

Other tanks include 80g, 40g, 2x30g, 4x20g, 10g and 5g, total cost unknown but sure to be around the £1200+ mark.

If you add fish costs into this as well the total would just be stupid with close to £800 worth of fish in just the 200 gallon alone!

Hmmmm...my five gallon with the filter, gravel, etc. was a gift, so it cost me nothing.

My 10-gallon tank cost about $10 for the tank, around $20 for the hood. Can't remember how much the filter and heater cost, but were probably about $15 each. Gravel was fairly cheap. I switched to sand, which was about $2 for a fifty-pound bag. That adds up to roughly $65.

My second 10-gallon tank cost about $4 and that included a 25-foot Python cleaning thingy, a hood, a net, and a cat/puppy collar.

For my 29-gallon: tank, filter, hood, heater, and stand were all given to me (gravel and decorations were offered, but I didn't want them). Substrate is sand, which I already had from the 10-gallon. I've spent nothing on the tank and equipment, thus far. I'd like to make a new hood, with more lighting, for it, as the one it has is about six inches too short and doesn't give nearly as much lighting as I'd like. It needs a new heater, but the room the tank is in stays pretty warm, so I haven't gotten one yet. The filter is noisy, and I'd like to get a quieter one. So, like I said, thus far, it's cost me nothing, but once I get the new stuff for it, it will have cost me something.

For my 55-gallon tank: Tank and lights (no tops/hoods though, I don't think), as well as a box of misc. fish stuff (filter floss, carbon, floating breeding container, air pumps, etc.). I don't have the tank here yet, so obviously don't have it set up. When I get it, I'll have to get a filter and a heater for it, as well as a hood.

One-gallon tanks: $10 for the AquaView, or whatever they're called, from Wal-Mart.

The only one of the above tanks that is up and running right now is the 29-gallon. Wait, the 10-gallon is up and running as a fry tank, but that's temporary. Fish and plants, as well as water conditioner, food, and the like, were more. Maybe I'll post those prices another time (then again, maybe not - I don't know if I really want to know how much I've spent on such things!). For now, I need to go to sleep.

I think I'll only post up the stats of my ten gallon tank. :)

Ten Gallon
Tank: Free
Heater: $30
Filter: Free
Filter Cartridge: $10
Light/Hood: $40
Gravel: Free
Various Accessories: $20
Fish: $100 (Including passed on fish)

Total: $200

I wonder how much it would be if the gravel, filter, and tank weren't free!

the first tank I bought I did the stupid thing of buying everything new from Pets at Home and ended up paying aver £300 for a 55g tank with no decor or fish!!
with my latest tank I got a 140g that retails for £900 with a Rena XP3 filter, a Fluval 404, a Fluval 304, 2 airpumps, decor, gravel, and lots of media, fake plants etc for £600!!!

cant remember how much most of them were but....

511g - $1300 bare tank

180g - $170 with stand, filter, rocks, gravel, plants, lights, ph kits etc complete.

125g - $100 for the tank, and about $300 on filter so far, but the tank just has old gravel thats all.

79g - $49 tank, canister filter $140, HOB Filter $45, logs and sand $50 just brought a new twin light $130.

75g - BARGIN 50 BUCKS! rocks lights everything! the guy was moving interstae!

I don't remember breakdowns anymore...

My 90 g wave tank was approx 1200.00

my modern oak 55 g was 1300.00

my modern oak 125 g was approx 2000.00

my 46 bowfront was 600.00

smaller tanks,who knows anymore.

Most relevant for me:

27 gallon Clearseal oak cabinet, stand, tank and hood - £185
Heater - £15
Fluval inc. media etc - £19
Gravel - £10-ish
Lights - £40
Misc bits and pieces (hoover, nets, algae scraper etc etc) - £40
Bottles of cycle, aquasafe, plant-gro etc - £15
Plants, bogwood etc - £50
Test kit - £20
CO2 diffuser - £20
Medication stock - £15

That's about it... Total about £420 so far, not including fish, food etc. And that was with a discount on almost all of the above.

I guess the moral of the story is that the total cost could be halved if I'd just bought a stand and tank, and cut back on some stuff. But we got the proper cabinet etc which are always more expensive, plus didn't spare on the rest.

umm both of my 29g tanks cost me around 120 i think

my 10g cost me 5

my 25g cost me 25

all of those were kits

I have a small tank- 6gallons.
It was somewhere in the $40 range and came with the tank and filter. It was about an extra $20-$30 for decoration.
