This is going to be painful...

50G tank:

Tank/Filter/Hood/Lights/Heater : £290
Gravel: £12
Large Slate chunks: £45
fake plants: £30
Fish: ~£150+

That plus extras is around £550..

57Gallon tank:
Tank/Heater/Filter/hood/lights etc: £290 (wooo got better model for free upgrade)
Gravel: £15
Bogwood: £70 (with 20% discount!)
Live Plants: £15
Fish: Going to be at least £200+ after the expensive catfishes (plecs, synodontis etc).

So thats around £600

Then, I have 6 smaller, tanks, which probably averaged £50 each to set up, so thats £300..

So all in all I've probably spent well in excess of £1600 including all the fish, food, meds, extras etc.

Like someone else has already said, the start up isn't cheap:

55 gal aquarium w/ hood
2 Aqua Clear 300 filters
several plants and decorations
A bunch of aquarium gravel and smooth pebbles
1 200 watt heater
1 net
1 gravel cleaner and enough hose to reach outside or the shower
1 "python" sink adapter and a 25 ft hose to be able to fill up w/o buckets
various buckets and sponges and such dedicated to just aquarium use
thermometer
background
very nice Marineland Sedona Series tankstand and canopy
any and everything else I may have forgotten

Grand Total: $800 - $900

Now for the good part. The fish you see in my signature cost a total of $30 or about $3 per fish averaged out (the gouramis were a little more than $3)

Has it been worth it? ABSOLUTELY!!!! I haven't even gotten this one fully stocked yet but I'm already planning my next tank.
