I've been offered some swordtails and I currently have a 90l tank spare also a heater. It was used for gerbils before but has all been sealed up :)

How many swordtails would you say could fit in it? If not a swordtail, what else? I am very in love with crown tail bettas but would it be a 'waste' of a tank with just one of them?

What are the dimensions of the tank?

There are quite a lot of fish that will live with bettas, if you want to go down that route.

90 litres i would say no more than 7 or 8. and its never a waste of a tank if its a stunning fish!

26x18x12 I would say it is (the area filled with water)

I've read alot of different things about bettas being able to live with other fish or not that's why I've not went and got one yet

There are certain species of fish you must avoid if you want a betta; no gouramis or guppies and most tetras are best avoided, but rasboras, or pygmy corydoras are good choices.

I agree with deftuch on swordtail numbers :good: Don't forget if you have females, you'll end up with lots (really, really lots!) of fry though!

Don't worry I've said males only as that is why the person has ended up with so many! Could the swordtails live with a betta?

A Swordtail male-only tank can be rather hard to keep peaceful. Males often fight and shred each other's fins, and if you have particularly aggressive males, they will take the whole crew on and kill until there is only one left.
I have 1 male and 3 females, the male is getting beat up and the females fight each other for who will be the alpha. Constantly.

And I have a 76L long tank, still keeping a bunch of fry to raise and keep (so in total I have around 9 swords o_O) and a hoplo catfish.

I have a tank about that size with a breeding colony of wild swordtails in it. I always keep 1 adult male and 2 or 3 adult females but right now I have 3 separate generations of fry and juveniles in the tank. The latest drop looks like about 20 surviving fry from less than a week ago. I also have a drop that is about 3 weeks to a month old and some juveniles that are between 2 and 3 months old. The tank is a bit crowded so it takes more than the usual water changes to stay on top of things.
