Hi

Ive got a 180 litre Juwel Rio 180.

im keeping 5x zebra danios, 5x glowlight tetras, 5x neon tetras and 3x corys.

i quite like these fish and would like to stick to these species.

My question is - if im to buy more of the same - what size groups should they be kept in???

Hi. I'm not too sure I understand your question but I think that you are on the right track with what you have. I'm not familiar with the specifics on all those species, but as for the neons and corys the more the better. I would suggest that you could keep as many of those fish as you like making sure that you don't overstock your tank. For most fish that like to be kept in groups, 5 or 6 is usually the suggested minimum and you already have 5 of most of what you have already. As long as there are no aggression problems with the fish you have chosen (and i don't think there are but i'm no expert) then you can add more if you like. Just be careful not to overstock.

They seem to be fine....

every website i look at there are different ideas of what fish are compatible....

some say fine some say dont. what makes you different??

Danios are very hyperactive fish and tetras like yours are prone to getting stressed out easily, so they don't make a great mix. How long has your tank been set up?

The danios wont mix well with those tetras.

It always worked for me?
Before I gave my danios away, they were living with a cherry barb, and before that, phantoms..

tank has been set up and cycled for about 7 months now....

i agree the danios are shooting around, and the tetras are less active but they dont seem to chase or hide.... theyve been there for a month or so now

Hi Gavilb,

I've got exactly the same tank as you and have had it up and running for nearly a year now and I have a similar selection of fish to you so i thought i'd share my experiences.

Of the types of fish that you asked about I have 7 x Zebra Danio, 8 x Glowlight Tetra, 8 x Black Neon Tetra and 8 x Neon Tetra. (I did have 8 Danios but one met his maker only a few days after being introduced to the tank).

Now I have never had any problems with keeping all these fish together as they tend to keep themselves seperated - the Black Neons and the Danios stay together near the top of the tank and the Glowlights and the normal Neons tend to stay together near the bottom of the tank.

Now to answer your questions after my rambling -
1. As cujoho78 said 5 or 6 is probably the minimum to have and the only upper limit is your tanks stock limit.
2. In my experience Danios and Tetras do mix well (but i might've just got lucky) and see no reason not to mix them.
3. My Danios are also really active and my Tetras less so but that is why i got them. As I said before the fish tend to stay in different levels of the tank so the active Danios don't affect the less active Tetras very often and even when a Danio decides to chase a Tetra i've nver noticed a Tetra let itself get caught.

Hope this longness helps you in some way, anything else I can help on what with having a similar setup just let me know.

thanks sloth...

thats great. i was a bit unsure as to why people were saying danios and tetras dont mix?? like all animals - i guess they all have different tempraments.

i think i'll stick to what ive got and add a few corys
