As a kid, I'd go with mates to fish in the Thames at various spots, Teddington Lock was a favourite. My trick was to not bait my hooks. I'd catch nothing, but that was entirely intentional.

As a youngster I fished a lot. The best time was catching Carp from the river. They were like hooking a tank and reeling them in was a challenge where the trout just swam in!
The last few years I got back into it so much I have a17' Glastron Ski & Fish boat and lake fish in Cayuga (one of the Finger Lakes in CNY) lake (catch & release) some (cause if I had to catch fish to live, I'd likely starve to death!)
After a time, I got skunked so much that I lost some interest...but I/we still enjoy boating.
