as per title, im using a fluval 3plus at the moment, ive not decided what to put in the tank yet,

but would a fluval u2 be up to the job? i belive it can pump 400litres per hour....thanks for any advice!

ok....but im not intent on fully stocking the tank lol the fluval u2 seems to be kicking the water about ok at the moment, ive noticed alot of the all in 1 tank kits at 130litres have the u2, so got a good guess it would be ok? the tank is going to be pretty planted but thats about it, and maybe 2-6 fish in it (want to maybe try and breed some rare fish in it)

most of the tank kits have filters that are under rated plus if your looking to plant it up you need more turn over and would be better off going for an external filter the ex 1200 isnt a bad choice that would give you about 6-7x turn over

hm...well external is not an option here due to the space needed, so should i just get rid fot he u2 and go for the u3?

If you fall into the rhetoric of the mainstream high tech planted tank people, you will want a nominal circulation in your tank of about 10 times the volume. That would make that huge 1200 filter correct by their standards. I do not subscribe to that thinking and can grow all the plants that I want without it. On the other hand a little 110 litre tank only needs a small filter to take care of the fish load. The rest of the flow can easily be created using a power head to stir all the water in your tank at almost any flow rate that you want. I have no experience with the U2 filter but it may well be big enough in terms of caring for the fish. If you then decide to go high tech / high circulation, a power head can always be added. I am presently using a 4+ in a 160 litre tank that is heavily planted and running pressurized CO2 with no problems at all.

there is nothing wrong with the 3plus but when i used it, it would get blocked pretty easy, my of u2 filter works a treat in a 90 litre tank, the plants ive grown myself, alot of the plants have "reproduced" aswell so i must be doing somthing right! i think the powerhead is the option i shall take here

i have the 3+ in both my 25gallon tanks and there planted up quite heavy my filter kept blocking up untill i removed the middle piece of media
