How long to take bacteria to die

Hey I searched around but couldnt find anywhere stating how long it would take the bacteria in the tank to die after you take away the oxygen source.

It depends on which kind of bacteria some only liv with out oxygen some die instantly with out it.

Are you now talking about bad or good bacteria?

I've read that you shouldn't leave your canister filter unplugged for more than 1/2 hour or the beneficial bacteria begins to die off quickly. I don't know about "in the tank" but it might be longer since the water is exposed to the air and would remain somewhat more oxygenated than in an enclosed canister filter.
