How Long Have You Kept Fish?

Hey, I always wonder how long the newbies/and oter members have been keeping fish. Feel free to tell how you came to loving the hobby as well.

To get things started I have been keeping fish for, 3 years.

I started out with goldfish when I was 5. My dad put the last one I have ever owned in a little lake with koi and goldfish.

Then two years ago my dad bought me a red male veiltail betta. I named him Sea King. We set up an old 3 gallon for him and he seemed really lonely and was just sleeping on a filter head. So after a couple days we got him three male guppies and a common plec (now I look back and that was really STUPID to do. But I was just a nuwbie). So he chased them all day and nipped their fins . They died the next year. I put a lot of different fish in with him to find what fish I'm good with keeping.

My dad knew I wanted a 10 gallon for a long time and finally got me one for a late birthday gift. I then joined the forum . I added 4 x-ray tetras(still living) and two baby red platies. The platies died of ICH . So my I bought some treatment for it to make sure my other fish wouldn't die. Well, Sea King was poisoned and sadly died. My little brother was so upset that he died and cried all night long.

Yeah sorry to hear about your betta I had one excatly the same when I was new to fishes and he ate all my guppies lol. I've been keeping them for over 2 years now...

i have been keeping for 12 years, started with a goldfish at 4 years old then got tropical at 6 had them ever since, kept a mixture of guppies, angelfish, bettas, plecs, tetras other livebearers etc

hi iv been keeping fish since i was 5 started with a gold fish. then when i was 17 built a pond with koi in it,got my first big tank 8ftx2ftx2ft when i was 25 wich i keept koi,mirror and ghost carp with gold fish and golden tench, then went tropical in it a year later with guppies,mollys,corys ,upside down cats,plecs,neons, and barbs, flying foxes, sword tails ,platties,and danioes, havent got my big tank any more wich im gutted about ,
iv got 2 / 2ftx1ftx18inch tanks now one with corys in the other with endelers in but getting a 4ftx2ftx2ft in a couple of weeks but havant decided what ill be keeping in it yet

kept them for a bit a few years back and my parents had them when i was younger but doing it all on my own since febuary this year

ive been keeping fish for about 6 months but have worked with fish in various shops for about 1 year. in 6 months ive accumilated 3 tanks though! 2 marine and 1 tropical and i daresay i wouldnt mind a bigger tropical and bigger marine tank!!
i wont count the goldfish i won at the fair aged 3 !

Over a year I've kept Bettas, & some goldfish.
Now I am sticking to Bettas (I currently have 5; none have died!).
I love them.

Hiya,

I've been keeping tropcal fish for just over a year after my friend got me hooked!

I have a mixed community tank with a male and female fighting fish and a small tank with a male and female fighting fish in it too.

ive only started this week my fiance got me into it when he showed me one of the guppy fry....awww how cute!!
so this week ive bought 7 guppies 4 male 4 female and i had my little boy one Micky for a couple of months!

know expecting fry because the female have big black gravid spots when we bought them....
cant wait to see new fry

2 years, ive had a FW community, got axolotls, got a brackish tank, got a marine tank and changed the FW tank into aniother brackish tank lol, aswell as getting other tanks lol (had 11 tanks at one point). Breed bettas and everyting I work at a LFS at the weekends and im 15
