How Long Have You Been Learning About Fish.

I've enjoyed fish ever since I was little, and started keeping goldfish at about 6 years old. I didn't really start learning until I was about 9 or 10 though, so around 13 years.

1 year and 8 months for me, sadly it was my grandpa's death and me taking over one of his tanks that got me started :rip:

Since i can remember fish have always been near? from when i was little me dad always tryeed to get us in to fishing, me i never found it much fun i liked looking at them but not catching them! Had a goldfish when i was young, an few years later after moving in with my now Husband we started out with a 70ltr tank with selection of community fish but it was never as complicated as it is now days, but their so much more information to help you along, since then i have now got 2 big tanks an Learning something new every day, all in all i'd say MY GOD I FEEL OLD NOW!!! :D Prob about 20 yrs

Got my first tank in 1982 a 30 gallon with undergravel plates (state of the art at that time). One of my first inhabitants was a spotted Rafael cat who was with me until sometime in 2005. Iv'e had good luck and bad but Iv'e always enjoyed the fish and I think most of the fish have been ok with me. Scott

kept fish for 20 years, used to read fish books but information was limited, learnt most about them in the 6mths that i`ve joined this forum and still have much to learn.

Well I wanted a pet so bad, but my dad and I are allergic to animal fur. So I got interested in fish about 8 years ago. So for christmas 7 years ago my parents got me my first 10 gallon tank. Because that whole year before I had to do all the research and show them that I knew what I was talking about and how I was going to take care of them. And now i'm up to two 10gallon tanks, one 20gallon tank, 3 vases with betta's, a 2.5 gallon tank with a betta, and now i've got my boyfriend interested in fish. Funny how catchy tanking care of fish is!!

I've been keeping fish for 15 years now, more seriously in the last 7 years, breeding big time for the last 3 years. As far as learning, take a 10 year old who likes to read encyclopedias for fun to the Shedd Aquarium and you can guess where that leads.

guess i started learning very young, my dad always had ponds and tropical tanks round the house. when I bought my first house he bought me my first community tank as my moving in present. I sort of muddled along with that tank and then got 1 more, not really learning a hell of a lot tbh.

I'd considered when I really started learning when I joined this forum about a year ago now. I've learnt a huge amount from you lot and I learn more every day. Still got a way to go before I would be comfortable calling myself experienced but at least now I'm in a position where I can help others, even if it it just with simple stuff! :D

My dad used to dive for sea urchins, so I started learning about fish and other aquatic critters very early on. Lots of trips to the beach to look at tidepools and snorkeling, plus an immense shell collection.

I got into aquariums with my mom around third grade when a friend gave us a couple, a 25 gallon became a tropical community tank (mostly livebearers and tetras) and an 80 gallon housed a few goldfish (I was always very confused as to why my goldfish was a foot long while my friends' fish were only a few inches, so were they. ) Mom fed me a steady diet of aquarium magazines and books, combined with our great local fish store we got off to a very good start.

I guess that makes it a good 12-13 years at least for aquariums, though the past year and a half spent fixing my boyfriend's 10 gallon (smallest tank I've ever dealt with) and watching these boards has been by far the most informative. :good:

Roughly 25 odd years - crikey that makes me feel old :look:

I got into this hobby when I was in primary school and this continued till finished secondary school then stopped. It started again after more than 10 years... End of last year, my neighbour gave me a tank and since then I am into this hobby again... yes again. SO, I am into this more than 10 years guess...
