Hi there :) Just wondering I have just set up a two foot tank for six platies.I have put the filter in plus the gravel and will soon put the heater in.I will be adding two large snails once I put the heater in but was wondering how long I have to leave the tank running before adding fish so some bacteria sets in thanks for reading :D

You'd do a fishless cycle until it's cycled :p Which would range from about 1-2 weeks. The thread tells you how do do a fishless cycle. But, after that's done, you can add most of your fish at the same time.

It is very rare a fishless cycle will take one or two weeks unles you have a good amounted of seed material and perhaps some plants as well. More like 3-4 weeks.

All my properly done, non-cloned fishless cycles have taken from 1-2 weeks. Even the 1g I cycled with enoguh ammonia for somethig in the region of a 50g only took 3/4 weeks.

i have done fish cycles in 2 weeks, but guess it just depends how much you are checking and around the tank.
