so i moved one into the 4foot with a bichir and my new uaru.
at first the bichir went for it but its a lazy fat bichir so its lost the lust to now.
will this fighter be alright?

it was either risk losing one of the fighters through them fighting, put it in with an 11" mayan, or this. and so far its survived happily for a few hours
anyone else kept bichirs with them?
i know it sounds stupid but i kept a cichlid with a large turtle for ages cause instead of eating it as a feeder (that i bred myself) it ignored it and it lasted another 3 years.

i wouldnt advise it, esp when the lights go out, depends on size, i managed to keep my senegal with guppys for a couple of months

yeah im not asking it in the noobish sense i just thought it was the only option that gave it some chance of living.
the bichir is fat and lazy cause i feed him well but he did this to his old tankmate at first and never bothered eating them

when you kept yours with the guppies did you feed it alot?
nice tank on the other thread btw :hyper:

I Don't think it will work out. Really. . Please please just get a 5 gal clear storage tub or tank ( or bigger, I have seen storage tubs that hold 17 gallons )and give the betta a home of it's own. It would be much kinder .

I can't wait to see how you get a betta out of a bichir's stomach to give it a better home. :D

i wouldnt care, i got the betta for free so it would just be a fancy bichir snack. theres 4 more bettas upstairs

I hope you are just saying this to get a rise. All fish deserve the best possible home, and once you realise you aren't providing that, it is your moral duty to do something about it, in the fishes' best interests.

a rise? im not sexualy attracted to fish if thats what you mean. the betta is still alive and fine the bichir isnt bothering it i fed it a bunch of mealworms earlier

Er, no. When I said to get a rise, I meant, to get people angry! Just because the betta is still alive and well doesn't mean it always will be. If you don't have the space to separate him then I suggest you rehome him ASAP

Can you not divide one of the other betta's tanks so you can get 2 in there?

no i dont have anything to divide it with.
the betta is fine still the bichir is lazy he always goes for new stuff at first and then gets bored, its his personality. he used to live with guppys

You can buy plastic dividers. Or simply set up a tub tank.

il leave it for the mo. the tanks in the stage of developing, theres still lots of fish to go in there. some dithers especialy so their will be plenty of activity and the bichir wont be able to eat them and will happily cruise around all day following me in the room to get food.

my point beign once i get the tank full there will be more of an equilibrium as there will be some smaller fish. the bichir hated the new Uaru i added in yesterday and now they are the best of friends they sit together alot of the time. it is a friendly bichir so i wont worry about the betta
