It would depend on what RAM the board can cope with in terms of size and speed and some laptops have to have matching RAM(or at least one of my old ones did).

If it were me, I'd stick it in and switch it on and see if it boots, if not, drop both 128's and try with just the 512, if that fails, it's not compatable. If it does work, then great, however, if you fry your machine, I take no responsibility ;)

Try http://www.crucial.com/uk/

Their Memory experts and sell it reasonably cheap, very informative website and even has a scanner showign which ram is compatabile, give them a try and it should help :)

And I would suggest going for 512 x2, if your laptop can handle it, would speed things up alot :p

lol I could have helped you but take exception to people who cant figure out how things work to calling people smarter than them nerds. Enjoy your slow laptop :p

Edit: Im sorry, guess I didnt read the whole sentence and this reply was way out of line. Just after working for many years in technical positions being called a geek or nerd by people Im helping REALLY annoys me. Anyway, apologies you got me on a bad day. As to the question, I would agree with checking out cruical.com they have an online system to work out what ram you need.

Remember though that if you PC is that old and your looking at spending £100 on ram it might be better to just leave it and then pick up a cheap laptop. Some of them are going at stupidly low prices now (sub £200) and depending on your current laptop spec you will notice a bigger difference then just upgrading the ram. Also try removing any programs that run in the background that you dont actually use (things like real player, camera & printer software, etc) and defragment the hard drive as well which will also help improve performance and not cost you anything.

xxBarneyxx, Did you hit your head on the wall when you got out of bed yesterday.

I think he ment it as a compliment.

nitro7, You'll need to check the specs for your laptop mate, to see what memory you can put in and what it will except.
You'll have to go to Compaq web site for info, unless you know what the max it will take.

Try this site for memory, I found it the cheapest when looking for an upgrade for my sons laptop.
