Hi there. Just looking for some advice on posting fish and the best and safest way to do it.

I am selling all of the fish in my tank and would be a lot easier if I knew how to post them.

Plants are easy. Plant, bag, seal, post. But fish unfortunately need water (annoying isn't it). So do I box them when their double/triple bagged?

Any help would be great.

Gary

Edit. Few spelling mistakes

i would ask the buyer to collect , :)

Not always as simple as that tho lmao. It would be a hell of alot easier tho!

I dunno spence i know it would probally better to use a box and courior. As royal mail dont really seem to car with the nick of some of the parcels ive recived.

But ill make some assumptions.
Some bags
A box
A 24 hour heat pad thingie.
And a 24 hour courior?

Angels are the best to post, fit in the envelope the easiest and don't have much wriggling ability :)

On a serious note it's not cheap. You will need a polystyrene box, your lfs should be able to let you have one. You will also have to check out which parcel carriers are happy to take livestock. Do a water change the night before you want to send them. Use as large a bag as you can, taking into account how many fish/how much space you have. Only 1/3 fill each bag and keep as much air in the bag a you can before making a very secure knot. Any spare space in the box should be filled with bagged water, polystyrene chips or screwed up newspaper to help stop movement/prevent heat loss. Clearly address and make sure you mark this way up.

Cheers for the replys.

Courrier defo seems like the best option here. Will check which ones are more happy to take live stock.

I did initially advertise the fish as pick up only or local delivery, but it turns out the west of Scotland is a tiny little island, just north of England, that only 4 people inhabit  so posting is really the best option if I want to get shot of them.

Well 1 of the 4 people that inhabit this inhabital area has already bought some of your stock :)

Hate using my fone!! Im sorry for double posting.

Yea the rummy army is coming along nicely!

The chain seems quite content hes been swiming about with the rummys think hes a tad confused. I wanna get him some friends tho!!

Was in P@H today (Im not being sladerous here btw) they had more tanks in quarintine than not. Annnnd they were selling DISCUS!! At 48 quid a pair and they were tiny! Dont think i would spend that much on fish in there! Although the small fish i have bought out ( most ) of them have survived. Still wouldnt buy discus from them tho. Lol

How u getting on with posting fish? Did u put an advert on gumtree?

For some mad reason, gumtree won't let me post an ad! Iv been trying for weeks now and I get so far and it just sends me back to the start.

Yeh, the chain used to do that in my tank too man, quite funny to watch!

As for posting.... think if someone wants my fish, they can arrange the courier and I'll happily bag and box them. Ryans are gona get me some boxes to keep them in (while bagged of course).

Boromir came down tonight and took my corys. Sad to see them go but glad too in a way. Tanks looking a bit bare now with pretty much ALL my wee pals gone
