But, OF, if you accept that developing a true breeding goldfish from wild carp takes years, (breeding carp with carp), why do you doubt that developing a Zebra Danio x Sea Anenome, (breeding Danios with Anenomes), by natural methods could be done in less? But equally I'm not sure you're right in saying it's easire to GM.
I just propose examples of what has been done, we have, for example, the same fluorescent gene now in mice and pigs.
There is a similar issue in the EU. The "legal status" of fish is somewhat ambiguous. Yes, we have rules on the humane transport/slaughter of animals, but dragging a fish up from the depths so it's systems explode during decompression or allowing it to slowly expire on the deck of a fishing boat, if it is lucky enough to escape being disembowled alive is somewhat contentious.Dude, here in the states, it IS illegal to treat animals cruelly. However, they do not consider the horrid process of dying a fish a different color "cruelty to animals".
This thread is wandering a little. It is off topic, but at this moment in time, civilised and potentially useful. So long it stays that way, I will allow it to continue. I will moderate it hard if it goes South.
