Iv had a bit of wood soaking in a bucket of water for around a week now but it still floats, how can I stop it?

Thanks

it can take a while for the wood to soak in enough water to weigh it down. is it just floating or have you weighted it down with something?

if its just floating then the part of the wood at the surface wont be getting totaly wet so it might be worth sticking a rock on top of it until it can stay down on its own.

I had it weighted down completly under water since its bin in there, does it mater if its warm or cold water or not?

Had this problem myself. I jammed it between some existing bogwood and some rocks till it eventually sunk. It took ages though for 1 particular peice to sink fully, and even now if I move it, it seems rather light at 1 end

It might not be exactly where you want your peice to be but its the only way, unless you want to leave it in a bucket for the next month or 2 haha

i read somewhere someone drilled a through the bogwood into rock/slate and and attached it to that, i was told boil bogwood or keep in hot water, ive got a piece sat in 80litres of hot water been doin it for a few days twice daily and its getting clearer and clearer the water :)

warmer water is better as it releases the trapped air inside the wood quicker. put it in hot water and you should see bubbles rising from it pretty fast :good:

Toilet cistern is a great place (as long as you don't use those blocks that go in there!).

Or very hot water, changing it once or twice a day works pretty quickly.

what I am going to do when I get my bog wood is what the shopowner told me and that is to attatch suckers to it so it sticks to the glass in your tank and does not completly touch the floor of your tank so lots of dirt does not get trapped underneath it heres vid

Same problem in my newly set up 5ft tank . Luckily I have four decent sized pieces so just jammed the floaty bit under the not-so floaty bit!! . Mind you, took a few attempts to get it to stay down but do far so good.

Put your arm into the tank and hold it down. Ask wife to feed you 3 times daily until it no longer floats.
