How Do I Start The Cycle?

Yeah, you are going to be busy for the next couple of weeks.

The more you can keep the ammonia and nitrite below .25ppm, the healthier your fish will be in the future.

yea well if there are any problems i will tell you... :)

ok i tested the water for ammonia and nitrites... the ammonia is at .25 so i will do a 30% water change... the nitrites were at 0 so i guess the bacteria arn't doing there job. Is this the right water quantity to replace?

It looks like your ammonia processors have yet to kick in Nutter. When they do, you will spend your time controlling nitrites instead of ammonia.

(This is Fatheadminnow, I am just using my Girl Friend's account)

Looks like you are doing goog, nutter!

Hi, i have one Question.... when i change the water i use filtered water and not normal cloudy water from the tap... will the filter take out good bacteria (it is a less effective one to the reverse osmosis unit) that i need to proform the cycle?

Not too sure on that... Personally I would use the tap water.

To be honest though, I don't think your filtered water can take out the bacteria, so I think you may be just fine.

ok well we will see in a couple of weeks if the nitrites have gone up hopefully

I have just re-tested my tank and the ammonia is around .25 which is weird because i just did a 30% water change... and my nitrites are still at 0

Did you wait about an hour to test again after the water change?

Oh yeah, the next day of course the ammonia is going to be high again. This is one reason why a fish-in cycle is not the best; because it is a lot of work with all the daily water changes.

If you just stay on top of things, everything should play out in the end! :good:
