How Can We Stop The Flaming?

Yes i've seen the flaming and it not nice, and it's fetching the site down, just report it to a mod.

I for one personally miss the flaming from the old general chat days (It added a bit of spice for those of us who were debating in a civilised manner as well as providing the occassional good laugh)

Since that was removed a good portion of the flaming has quietened down IMO

lol like i said you get all views in a Forum
perhaps some of us are getting a bit sensetive? im sure the mods keep an eye on the threads in their section, would they not act before being asked, if it was Flaming in the view of admin?

"squeaky wheel gets the grease" ;) depending on a mod's experience in a section, things might get interpreted uniquely.

i remember that once a racist post regarding people of Asian descent and the keeping of hybrids showed up in the hybrid section. i was offended and so i reported it. two mods contacted me. the one with freshwater experience agreed that it was an offensive claim. the one with saltwater experience thought that it was factually based. but upon my explanation of why i was offended by the post, the saltwater mod agreed that the statement was in poor taste.

the resolution of this issue, however, didn't involve any banning or suspensions. the first mod contacted the poster and explained that such statements are not acceptable on TFF. the poster apologized, edited his own post and, as far as i saw, never said such a thing again. a nice, rational conclusion. :)

Those who know me a bit know how I love a good hearted reasoned debate! I can't say I really know what a flame is, but I can tell when people are getting heated and reason is getting tossed out with the dirty aquarium water. Some of us like a good discussion and learn from it. Some are stongly opinionated but can learn to tolerate one another with a little help. So far what makes sense here to me is that those who are able can help keep things reasoned and helpful rather than hurtful. And the mods can be alerted when a member appears to be out of line and needs a little direction. Gotten some of that myself.

I have seen some aggressive actions in the African section. I just figured that Cichlid owners like a little rough and tumble. But on the other hand I have seen good humor and members stepping in to call others to civility.

what i always do: ignore, ignore, and ignore, and more ignore :good:

I was just wondering after eading the recent topic about the general decline in friendliness here on the forum (which I agree with wholeheartedly by the way) what can we do to bring a spirit of cooperation and helpfulness back to the forum? I for one am tired of it and wish for people to get along.

Theres nothing that can really be done by bystanders really. Its down to the people who actually cause the ill feeling in their responses to think twice and maybe read back what they have typed before hitting the submit button. People also maybe wish to think before they type something in a contradictory or commanding way. Just because someone does something different than you, doesnt mean that its right or wrong. It just means it works for them and for that, they do not deserve to be jumped on and told they are wrong or told that they should let people know that this works for them but may not work for someone else.

I feel that many people on this forum are not given the credit they deserve, and if someone has asked in a thread how to do something, then they are looking for a response from someone. Not for someone to look at that thread, see a response from someone and say " thats wrong !!" or turn they thread into a flame war because they feel the response is incorrect. IF your going to flame someone or shoot them down in flames, then at least have evidence or proof that they are completely wrong before getting that persons back up.

There, my 50p worth :)

a good point well made!

I find that sometimes people should check the age of the person that they are responding to. One might respond differently to a 13 year old than to a 26 year old or a 35 year old. As was said earlier patience is a much to be desired virtue. People are worth more than fish IMO in the long end. It has made me sad to see youngsters expected to act older than their age. But I have been a member for awhile, and I don't see any worse behavior than when I started. Same old, same old.
