How Can I Help My Betta?

Poor guy.... those are certainly some tattered fins. Water changes and Betta Fix (or Mela fix) should ensure his fins grow back.

Looks to be a crowntail. As for the eyes, nothing looks unhealthy to me..... would be odd if you never noticed the red eyes b4. Maybe he has some sort of albino trait in him . Check to make sure your filter (or whatever it is :p) isnt causing too much current.

how would you reduce the current? on a biowheel(it's that built in set up or would probably just change the filter), my fish really likes swimming in it but I think it'a bit strong, got some mesh around the intake to prevent accidental suction
The biowheels dont seem to make too much current.... If you're concerned, you could try some sort of modification of this idea:

Remember that when using Melafix that you should only use a very small dose. Maybe less than half the dose recommended on the bottle.
Melafix is not like an antibiotic where you could hurt them with too much. You could use 4 times the normal dose with no ill effects. So why should people use a lower dose? 1/2 dose is fine for maintenance after fin rot is stopped but while it's present use the full dose.

I've read that there is something in Melafix that messes w/ their labyrinth organ. Whether or not if it's true.. I'm not sure since I've never had experience w/ it. I'm sure you could find some more info on it on google or something.

I'd already switched to the erythromiacin by the time I posted on here, a 4 day course, today's last day. I put foam on my Biowheel current to cut it to about 1/2..and of course the antibiotic killed my good bacteria.

So, I've been doing water changes. Haven't been able to get any malefix yet. I'll get that this evening at the LFS. Here's an updated pic. I think he's looking a little better.
