Could I get a pair of sail fin mollies too?
To stay organized and to provide you with correct information so I don't get lost.
What is your ideal stocking? What do you want to be in your tank? Can you post a list with their names and numbers?
If the fish is in your tank, note it (also note if you are going to get rid of that fish). If its not in your tank then note that too.
I'm getting a little confused on everything.
Here is a start:
4 danios - Going back or staying?
4 glolight tetra - going back or staying?
10 neon tetra - going back or staying?
8 balloon mollies
3 gourami - Have you already taken it back?
1 tiny plec - Have you already taken it back?
4 sunset platy -
1 male guppy -
Thanks.
Yeah I think we have got a bit muddled. I've had a count up, I have;
5 assorted danios - staying
5 glolight tetra - staying
10 neon tetra - staying
8 balloon mollies - staying
3 gourami - Will go back
1 tiny plec - Will go back
4 sunset platy - staying
1 male guppy - staying
Ideally, I want a lot of guppies. And a pair of sail fins. I would get rid of the gourami and plec for another 5 guppies and a pair of sail fins if I can.
So in the end you want to have:
5 assorted danios
5 glolight tetra
10 neon tetra
8 balloon mollies
4 sunset platy
6 guppies
2 Sailfin Mollies
Issue one. You are fully stocked/overstocked at this point. If you have any fry or anything happens in there it could collapse your bio load and send the tank into a cycle.
Issue Two Platys, Mollies and Guppies will all reproduce. Minimum recommend male to female ratio is 1:2 (M:F). So if you are getting two Sailfin Mollies, they should be female. unless you want one male and two females.
Recommendation One - Also get rid of the danios. They get a little bigger than the rest and will create more of a bio load.
- Get rid of 5 Danios
- Get 3 Mollies instead of 2. 1 male 2 females.
- Get the 5 Guppies. Try for 4 females and one male. so you will have 2 males and 4 females.
- Get 1 more Glolight tetra to make their school feel safer.
So in the end I recommend you have:
6 glolight tetra
10 neon tetra
8 balloon mollies
4 sunset platy
6 guppies
3 Sailfin Mollies
Recommendation Two No more fish after this. I guarantee you in a month you will see a big fat pregnant fish. in no more than 2 weeks after that you will see fry all over you tank. The ones that are strong and don't get eaten will live and fill your stocking. Those that die will be good food.
I recommend no more fish and getting rid of the danios so you have more room for when they do reproduce. That way you don't crash your tank.
I expect eventually your neons to fade away slowly, possibly. They could be fine though. If they do, don't replace them. The mollies, platys and guppies will easily take their places.
Do you have any live plants? plastic or real?
Regardless of fake or real, any floating plants will help the survival of your fry. They will be able to stay by the surface and eat while maintaining cover.
Real plants will help deal with your bio load. If you have the entire back wall and some foreground covered with plants, like this:
It will really help with the bio load and help with the incoming fry. When the fish give birth they release more ammonia and it can be heavy on the bio load. Especially with all the new fish swimming around.
Any dead fry will also add to the bio load.
Things to keep in mind.
I would say try out the suggestions, see how it works. Keep testing the water parameters and see how if it stays stable for a few weeks...months.
