hi all

ok yesterday we spent the day at the hospital (not the first time and sure won't be the last)

well we hadn't been to this one befor and the first thing we noticed was a tank in the waiting room

in it was just one lonely looking angel fish, he must heve been shy too cus he was hiding behind a thick wall of algae.

well mum likes to fix things that are broke and take in things that are ill (she says if i wasn't already hers she'd have to kidnap me), so she asked about the tank and while i was having my treatment (this is when i fall asleep), she started doing an emegency clean.

the nurse that looked after the tank has been moved to the ward and no one on the unit knows about fish so we said we would give them as much info as we can find befor we go back next week

thats where you lot can help cus we've never had angel fish

his tanks is about 18 x18 x 24 high

should he be on his own

what plants should he have

what should thye feed him

any other suggestions

thanks

hattie (age 9 1/2 tomorrow, yeaaay)

You and your mom are very special to take this on. I wouldn't add another angel as that is his tank and he may not want a new friend but perhaps some other tank mates would be nice. I would only worry that since they hadn't been caring for the lonely angel they may not keep up on it once your treatments are finished.
My best to you and your mom.

they only werent taking proper care cus they didn't know how but i think they will now, they all looked pretty guilty :*)

anyway we'll be around for a while to keep an eye on him

ps do you really live at the north pole?

I found a volume calculator that says that is about 33 gallons. That sounds like a good sized tank

You could add some corydoras catfish. Cories are pretty hardy and stay mainly on the bottom so the angels would leave them alone. I'd get 6 - at my fish store they're pretty inexpensive. They'd be a LOT of fun to watch - very cheerful and energetic.

Hi Love,
North Pole, Alaska is about 13 miles south of Fairbanks which is about dead center in the state of Alaska. So it isn't the North Pole of Earth... The temps here get from the 90's in the summer (sometimes) to 50 or 60 degrees below in the winters (sometimes). That's a huge dif. We get snow too but it is too cold to snow for much of the winter and the stuff that does fall is so dry that it is very fine and sounds like styrofoam when you walk on it. Not good for snowmen and snowballs.
Can I ask why you need to go for weekly treatments? It is ok if it is too personal a question... I'll still be sending you happy and healthy thoughts...

Why not ask the nurses to each pitch in for the cost of a fish and you can do the shopping for it? You could put together a short list from your local shop of what fish that would work out in there... That way they would all have a fish in there that they are "responsible" for. Get your doctor to pitch in too. It could be real fun. I'd be more then happy to help you figure out what fish that you could get would work out in there and how many that there should be...

Thats a good idea I'm sure they'd all like to have there own fish, they were going to ask for suggestions to name the angel but now they can all name there own

i don't mind you asking cus it's no secret, i had leukemia so i get lots of time off school at the moment cus i bugs make me realy ill

i don't mind the hospitals cus they all new my dad so they are really nice to me he was an oncologist but he had a brain tumour and died just befor i got my leukemia (mum says someday they'll make a film about us, she says they'll call it sods law)

mum says that this is a goood hobby cus all this writing (literacy) water tests (chemistry) learning about fish and breeding (biology) reaserch on the net (ict)

9 1/2 TODAY

Happy 9 1/2 B-day Hattie! you amd your mum are very nice to care for this angelfish.

maybe it would be a good idea to get a small algae eater as well if the nurses have a hard time keeping up on that kind of maintenance.
good luck :)

Happy 9 and 1/2 ..... I'm sure this angel will be very grateful to have someone looking after him...does he have a name that you know of?....maybe you can give him one :D

Good luck and wishes.....
