I saw a tiny white/clear horseshoe crab at the petshop earlier.

whats the requirements to own one?

Quite simply... a BIG tank. Horseshoe crabs can get up to about 2 feet long and between 8-12 inches across. They're not small animals by any means. It might take a while for them to reach their big sizes.... but they will.

very clumsy too.
I would not even consider my 220 large enough for one.

as young they are great at sifting sand (reortedly) but as they grow they start eating larger inverts than pods and people lose there cleaner shrimp and small crabs, even slow moveing fish.

And once again, very clumsy.

I had one. The darn thing acted like it had never been in water before and didn't know how to swim.. :X

I found a dead one on the beach once. I kept it (don't ask why, I had a lot of weird stuff like that, I guess it was to keep the dead rattlesnake in my freezer company). It was HUGE! Including the tail, it was well over two feet long, but just measuring the body it was about a foot.

They're neat creatures, though. I'd never seen anything like it before. I found it on a beach near Charleston, South Carolina.

They have some at Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, SC... probably have some at the SC Aquarium in Charleston too. Seeing one up close like that gives you an idea of just how big they are, especially with that tail.

Horseshoe crabs feed at night, if you can find them you can hand feed them. Not cool to have in a reef, they tend to bull doze through the rock knocking everything over. When they get large enough, you can make a helmet out of them. Wont you be cool sporting a horseshoe crab helmet.
