Horror Films

the new amityville horror was terrible.
i guess it was ok if you haven't read the book
but half the stuff in that film was false to the real story (i don't think the filmmakers could get the rights to the true story or something)
the dog didn't die, the dog was innocent! and he survived, and the house got WAY more wrecked! where were the plagues of flies and all the green goo, and the pig prints in the snow!
grr!

one of my favourite stupid horror flicks is Jack Frost, no not the happy jingly xmas kids story, this one is a b-movie about a crazy murderer who turns into a killer snowman. my favourite bit was when the kid had the snowmans arm attached to him, and clearly his parents logic ran like "omg! snowman arm! on my child! if i dunk my child in a huge vat of anti-freeze then that will get rid of the snowman and not harm my small child at all!!", amazing bit of filmmaking.

Horror movies, now we are talking my language.

I have been a horror fan all my life and i am a mod on a couple of forums.
My favourites are many, but to name a few here is a short list.

Jaws
The Thing
The Fly
Alien/Aliens
Last House on the Left
T.C.M
Dawn of the Dead
The Exorcist
Omen trilogy
Phantasm
Suspiria
King Kong
The Fog
The Beyond
Halloween
A.W.I.L
Ringu
Haute Tension

I could go on.

The future of horror at the moment lies in Asia, where atmosphere takes prevalence over sexed up teens.

Must see movies are Old Boy and Battle Royale, which although not technically horror do provide moments of terror and tension.

What i hate is the constant remakes that Hollywood churn out with absolute no respect to the genre.
Very very few actually work, most fail.
The current slew of remakes and sequels are a disgrace and i for one will NOT support such trash, they want your money regardless of what should be made and do not make movies which the genre deserves.

The remake of T.C.M for example is one such case,an appalling excuse for a movie if ever i saw one.

Other movies which should be concined to the bin are the dreadful Cabin Fever and The House of a Thousand Copses, two of the most lame, dull and childish movies i have seen for quite some time.

I can talk horror all day but for now i will leave it at this, for now anyways.

Its got to be SAW......my wife refuses to watch it ever again but I thought it was great.....make sure you have a change of pants near by though!

Watched it a couple of weeks ago, too overhyped I think as I was dissapointed, can't even be bothered to watch Saw2.

Descent was OK, but another pretty faces film (not that that's a bad thing :hey: )

i was going to post that it scared me too,i hate clowns because of that film,i was just havin a read through the posts and then i come face to face with IT, .mind you when i watched that i was only young, i would not watch it now ,the bit i hate is the kid who gets sucked in to the pipe bent in half. .

Horror thread too?? I'm never gonna have a life again :(

Most are just no longer scary, you need the older films or those made during the 70s & 80s:
Third House on the Left
People under the Stairs
Straw Dogs
Alien
The Fly
The Thing
Jaws

However, the Excorcist, Omen and Suspira are crap. Scary music yes - but that's it.

Or Japanese films, such as Ringu, Ju-On, Battle Royale (although not really horror) etc are ace. As are other asian films like those in the Tartan Asia or Asia Extreme back cataglogue - such as Old Boy, which again is not scary but violent. Awaiting Lady Vengeance which promises to be good.

I also loved 28 Days Later and the Descent, which weren't scary, just very well done.

Erm, now off to watch Audition, which I shall come and give a review on later!
:D

PS - Steven King rocks when it comes to books but not always movies (Carrie and IT did work though) - the Dark Tower series are the best ever and think I might nip back and add them into my fav book list...

Horror thread too?? I'm never gonna have a life again :(

   That's how I feel too with all these new threads! Wait a minute, it just occured to me, I don't have a life!

Back on track, favorite horror flick.

Alien, still get jumpy with that one, and I've seen it a million billion times. And Jaws, same reaction, especially when they are stuck at sea in Quint's boat. Don't know who's scarier, the shark or Quint. If I had to vote, I'd say Quint.

Evil Dead series are more comedy than anything else, as are films like Peter Jackson's Braindead.

My blockbuster list currently has the following horror movies on it that I've been dying to see:
Rosemary's Baby
Don't Look Now
Shivers
Rabid
Martin
Willard
Darkness Falls
Wolf Creek
Skeleton Key
Dark Water
The Cave

It did have way more than that, but my hubby appears to have gone and deleted all the B&W movies, plus anything by Argento cos he hated suspira that much!

Stupid man - doesn't mean everything would be crap :(

How can anyone hate Suspiria, one of the all time great horror flics from one of the all time great horror directors. :/
