Horribly Shredded Tail :(

Thanks for the link jasmine :) So, overstimulated or understimulated? Or it could be the poor water stats at the mo. I'm doing what I can to keep them under control-they're stressing me right out, so could well be him too!

poor babes :( Sorry to hear more tail has gone, hope he realises it is silly soon and shiny marbles are much better to play with.

I had a great male fighter with very similar flowing fins. He was doing great until I introduced 4 females into the same tank a month later. 24 hrs later and all his fins were torn to shreds. I assume the girls did it to him.

Anyway the good news is that the fins repaired themselves. Although they never grew back to full length but they still looked terrific. It was like the girls gave him a hair-cut so to speak. They were good stylishs :hyper:

Never put males and females together unless your breeding otherwise, well that happens.

keep trying with him ellena.

Ellena, i think it could be due to water conditons and everything else like temp.
Try make things as perfect as possible!
I know your trying hard, your a good parent to your betta lol

I seem to remember someone recently had a similar looking tail problem, so I'm off to try and find that post
That may have been me you're remembering. I posted (twice - 2 different incidents!) about my betta's (mostly) dorsal fin getting shredded. (Here's the link to the more recent.) It's likely that he was getting it caught in the filter intake as well as getting torn on the stupid SILK plants (why on earth silk plants have hard, sharp PLASTIC bits almost hidden on them - pretend "shoots" and "roots" and "buds" - is beyond me). I covered the intake and put only live plants in and he's healing quickly and nicely.

Sorry your pretty guy is doing this to himself. In those very threads of mine, I too was given the suggestion of relieving his boredom with marbles (he loves them - too funny to watch!) and ping pong balls (haven't yet tried that), as well as by totally rearranging the tank and giving lots of things to explore.

As others have said, he WILL heal, and they will grow back. Clean water, as you know, will help tons. You'll both get there! Sooo hard to see those gorgeous fins in shreds, I know.

Zuulan, i literally just laughed to what you said ' It was like the girls gave him a hair-cut so to speak They were good stylishs' Haha that sounded really funny.
Anyway ellena, i hope your betta improves!
I wish their was a way to get around everything.

Sorry to hear about your poor boy :(

I put a couple of little snails in with mine & he loved knocking the poor things off the glass then chasing them as they fell to the bottom, they have since been taken out!!! lol

Hope he improves soon!!!

:)

He does seem to have stopped chewing at last. Not sure whether that's down to the frogs both meeting their ends or whether he's eaten all he can reach. Either way, he seems to be on the mend and I don't think I'll replace the frogs in case they were the cause.
