hopeless or not?

Bless him, fingers crossed, if he's eating that's not a bad sign either.

Just give "great" water conditions and some TLC and hopefully he'll pull through...He's atleast got a fighting chance with you ;)

such nice people  thanks everyone.

  I am glad you decided to keep him. Is he doing any better now. I think if it was going to die it would have already. Good Job blackangel.

He is still doing ok thanks but as i dont want to disturb him in amongst all the greenery its hard to tell whats going on with him. i can see his tail though and that looks loads better and growing more each day.

I do hope as well he is over the worst. :)

Hi black angel :)

I'm glad to hear your fish is doing better.

I'd also like to suggest that in severe cases like this, it's a good idea to continue the medicine longer than you think is really necessary. You want to be absolutely sure the disease causing bacteria are dead.

This is to prevent any of the bacteria that might still be in his system from mutating and becoming resistant to the meds in the future. This can be a real problem if it happens.

Need an up date on his progress.

hi wilder
well, its day 6 in the big broother tank.

i tried taking pics tonight when he came out to eat but they just came out blurry. He looks so much better you wouldnt think it was the same fish until you looked at his tail.
All the redness around the top of his mouth has gone, his fins seem to be better, but the tank was quite dark so hard to tell.
need him to stick to the front of his tank so i can get a good look at is belly but hes moving around more which i'm pleased about. His tail still has a sore patch at the bottom but his fin is growing back more and more.

Thanks for the continued interest and support

Glad to hear this, still been thinking about him, bless him, it's funny when they stick themselves on the tank, hope it won't belong before he does.

I just looked up Hypostomus on Google search (because it looks like my pleco)and there was several stories about catfish. One of them was a catfish jumped out of a tank overnight, in the morning someone saw it and assumed it was dead.It was scratched and some fins were missing. As they picked it up to dispose of the body it started "kicking". The person was very shocked and put the catfish back in the tank. Unfortunately it's tail broke off. The reason I am telling you this is that the fish fully recovered and all it's fins grew back and it was fine. Hope it is a true story and hope your catfish has the same recovery.

Awww, he sounds like a fighter :flex:

Well done to you for the wonderful care, it sounds like he's going to fully recover.

thanks joby and morgan for that little story, it shows how resilient they are.
he looks better each day, and hopefully i will get a look at his belly tonight. will take a pic too.
Anyone think of a name? -_-

just to let everyone know that *lucky* (thanks morgan) has made a 99% recovery. he still has a bit of red on his tail but thats healing. today i moved him into the bigger tank with the female.
