DIY Guide

I think this site has a guide on it, or a sticky somewhere, but the search function is down and I've tried looking manually but can't find it.

Hi, I got a couple from Tesco, cut them in half, got sick on coconut, sanded off the fibres, super-glued on a base and hairnet (to hold Java Moss) and chucked it in :dunno: No problem with colouring water or anything else and that was months ago

I made two different types, one was a whole coconut with 38mm holes drilled in and coconut scooped out from through the holes and the other was a chop in half and cut a door and windows affair. I left the hair on the outside of the coconut (gave it a good clean first) This helped the java gain a good grip on the fibres.

If you are worried you can boil them for 10 mins before putting them in the tank. You can also buy them already halved and full of bird food, feed the insides to the birds and boil the shells, saves on trying to cut them and clean the insides out lol.
