was just having a think about getting a co2 systen for my fish tank and i thought, would it be possible to use a soda stream bottle with a regulator and a defuser?
it's just a thought and wondered if its possible? maybe someone on here might know!!
thanks jim

I don't know what size/shape bottles they use in those soda stream machines at eating places. Would be interesting to hear and/or see pictures. For the holiday we got an interesting machine that makes seltzer water. It looks like a penguin! The CO2 cannister in it is tall and skinny. I looked at it jealously thinking how much I want to get in to pressurized but really I also thought that it probably holds considerably less volume that a standard 5 or 10 pound tank like we talk about here all the time.

its just a thought as i know where i can get soda stream bottles refilled for free
:)

That's sort of the idea behind the yeast co2 method. As the yeast ferments, it creates co2 and since the bottle is closed and sealed up, the co2 goes up the airline from the pressure. Of course this method has a lot of ups and downs. It's by far the cheapest method but the least stable and requires quite a bit of maintanence. The soda machine dispensors actually use canisters much like a pressurized cO2 system and still need to be filled/swapped out.

i think you'd have to see what sort of plumbing is used on the drinks machines.. see if there are regulators to fit..

Isn't that about the same thing as using a 5lb cylinder though?
