Hey all- Well I finally settled on an accident that i got into about 4 years ago! Since i'm getting quit alot, I want to buy a BIG fish tank for my Bala's.

I was thinking a 150 gallon.

Since I have two balas now, do you think I could get one more as well as a Pleco.

These four fish would have the entire tank to themselves.

WIll this work, or should i get an even bigger tank?

Thanks,

Well if you can afford it and have the space then the bigger the better, fish can always do with more room.

For your balas i would go for a tank that is at least 6 feet long by 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep (around 180 gallons) so that it has swimming room all around the tank, i would also boost the shoal to have at least 5 balas. You dont need to dedicate the entire tank to just these fish and your pleco, with a large tank you could stock several more fish, i personally would go for a nice group of 5 or 6 clown loaches and a shoal of a peaceful barb species like pentazona barbs.

:D ohhhh i'm soo excited. I was hoping someone would suggest putting some clowns in their. My balas are going to be so happy......going out this weekend shopping!

Any more suggestions greatly appreciated.

Also do you think planted or natural would be best?

Oh and since it will be a huge tank, could I just move all my fish in my 55 gallon that I have now.....to this bigger tank and add a few more balas???

then I could put my cichlids into the 55 gallon and get some more of those and then turn my 30 gallon into saltwater.....Ohhhhh that would be great.

What does everyone think!? :D

You could move all the fish from the 55 into the new tank but i would leave the new cichlids in the 30 and use the 55 for a saltwater, the bigger the tank the more options you will have.

180 gallons is exactly the tank I was going to suggest :D

I would personally go with your original idea, 55 gallon tank makes a much more suitable environment for the cichlids - mbuna are roamers, and I've found they take full advantage of their tank no matter how big it is.

180 gallons is plenty big for a few bala sharks. I would agree that you shoulf also get a couple other fish too. It will make your tank a lot more interesting

I have been shopping around and have put a 180 gallon on hold, while i ponder if i really want to spend that much money or not! But i know this is going to be the best possible home for my balas, and also that I can get them some friends! :D Oh jeez here i go talking myself into it! LOL.....now if only i can convince the boyfriend!
