Hi Guys/Gals,

Newbie needs advice, right (deep breathe) here goes. Some back round info;

Coldwater set-up consisting of one goldfish (not fancy) in approx 20Ltr tank. Tank has been set-up for seven weeks now, started off with 3 goldies but not being informed of the facts from my LFS re. fishless cycling I lost two early on :-( . Readings have been down for a few weeks now, Ammonia 0/Nitrite 0. Nitrate has shot up in the last week or so from 25 to 100+. I only do a 20% water change fortnightly is this enough?, I only have one fish left remember.

HI WELCOME TO THE FORUM>

Glad you are trying to get help for your little goldie.

You need to do lots of small water changes till you can get your levels down. I am thinking 15% daily testing daily as well and once you get the nitrates under control then you can slow up on the changes. 20 liters is tiny for a goldie tho so you are gonna need super good filtration and will always need to do more water changes then the norm, not to mention you will need a larger aquarium for it soon. Oh wow I just looked it up 6 gallons, that tank is really only big enough for a betta.

What kind of filter do you have?

- LFS said this size of tank could easily hold 5+ goldies. I didn't agree at the time and wanted my fish to grow so only purchased 3. I am finding out quickly LFS are not always the best source of information. Makes me so mad :crazy:

Jewel (sp) I think?

continue doing the water change is the only thing apply now to lower ur nitrate. 10-20% change every day should apply. Good luck to ya.
