I AM TECHNICALLY A NEWCOMER TO THE HOBBY, I HAD A 10 GAL. TANK ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO, BUT COULD NOT KEEP IT UP. THIS TIME I STARTED OUT BY READING EVERYTHING I COULD. I NOW HAVE A 20 GAL TANK AND I AM TRYING TO GET STARTED OUT ON THE RIGHT FOOT.

Welcome to TFF. Read about fishless cycling for the tank to get it ready to house the fish you want.

Good people here from what I have experienced, you should have no problems with your tank provided you heed the advice given here.

What kind of fish do you want to put in there?

:hi: to the forums be sure to look around and read some of the pinned articles they can help to get you off on the right foot(if you are left footed no offence intended) :p

Hi Eudielynn,

Welcome to the forum. You are in a great location for starting a tank being in Southern Indiana. Right now, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois seem to be the hot beds for tropical fish clubs. Tropical fish clubs are a great way to meet people in the hobby and learn a lot of information about fish. Not to mention a great opportunity to get fish that you do not always see in fish stores. Have you thought about what kinds of fish you want to keep? What part of Southern Indiana are you from?

I am from Michigan myself not to far from the Indiana border. I have been in the hobby for 29 yrs. and would gladly answer any questions that you might have regarding freshwater tropical fish. Please feel free to ask me if you have a question.
