hi everyone my names mike .... iv got a tropical fish tank aprox 10gall ish ..... i have 2 red claw crabs 3 fat yellow fish ( forgot there name ) a yellow electic chilid ? and a male and female siamese fighting fish and a silver back shark ..... im waiting to order a product for atlantis under water habitats wich is basiclly a underwater dry habitat for crabs and turtles etc .... my tank needs cleaning and new water putting in how do i do it ? where do i put the fish ? and what do i do with water ? do i have to heat the water up before hand . thanks mike .

Hi & welcome :)

Basically your tank inmates are no-where near compatible or suitable all together for a 10 gal tank.........

Fish stays in,remove water from the tank with a hose or gravel cleaner, then replace with fresh dechlorinated water.

But my advise would be to sort out your stocking first.

hi what do you mean ? they are all peacfull comunity fish , they get alone fine and have done for months .... fair enough my shark is big but so are my red claw crabs ..... shall i heat the water up first ? thanks .

Hi Mike and welcome.

To answer your questions simply, have you got a gravel cleaner that sucks out water at the same time? If so use that to remove the water and give the gravel a good clean. Then you will need to replace the water. So let's say your bucket holds around 6 litre as mine does. Add about a mil of dechlrinator to the bucket then 5 litres of cold tap water and a litre of boiling water from the kettle. That should give you water of about the right temperature. You can put a thermomiter in there to double check if you like. Just don't forget that dechlorinator what ever you do.

You can leave your fish in the tank. They will be fine.

Hope that helps.

Another top tip I was given was to put a mug or saucer or something on the gravel and aim the new water over that and then it doesn't mess up your gravel

hi akasha thanks for the advice this is my first real tank ..... do yo uknow anything of the atlantis under water habitats ? where crabs can get in and out ? ... and all so should of said this before but my male fighter has been chasing my female about everywhere now i read somewhere that means he wants her and he keeps flaring his gills , how will i know if she is pregnant ? thanks .

Not sure where to start, DO you have a heater?
Is your tank cycled?
Take the 3 cichlids back to your lfs, take the shark back, take the female betta back, not sure about crabs, keep the male betta, right now your tank is overstocked, and the fish are incompatible, there not all community fish.

Yellow electric labs need 30gallon+
Shark 100gallon+
female betta not compatible with the male.

Please sort it out ASAP

Sorry, I can't answer either of those questions. I'm fairly new to this myself and I'm going down the sensible route and just keeping the easy fish for now (guppies and platies mostly)

There will be someone on here that can answer those questions though so be patient.

Good luck :)

The male fighters chasing her to kill her, females dont get pregnant, the male makes a bubble nest, you slowly introduce the female(as they shouldnt be in the same tank) let them do their 'dance' then remove her straight away, the male will tend to the eggs and fry.

Well they wont be fine and MALES CANNOT CO-EXIST WITH FEMALES in a small tank, Cichlids are not community fish, your local pet shop man is just another sales-men whos waiting for the next jack to come by and sell them they dont need.

Another Rodger?

+1 ban by ip :hey:
