My name is Timur, and I'm deathly afraid of fish.

In trying to overcome my fear, it has been recommended that I get a fish to take care of.

So... what fish is relatively non-scary and easily taken care of? Synirr keeps telling me to get a betta, but I think she may just be biased. ;).

Hi Timur! I suggest to get some goldfish there very easy to keep, or if you want tropical fish get some mollies or tetras etc.

Hello and welcome to the forum. :hi:

If you want a single fish, a betta would be perfect. They don't require a large tank (a 2.5 gallon mini-bow would be fine) and if you do daily water changes, you can get by without a filter and heater too (although I would recommend at least getting a filter). I would stay away from goldfish as they are very messy (lots of waste), need a large tank (20 gallon for the 1st one alone) and grow very big.

Hi Timur, welcome to the forum :) You might also want to try killifish. Most species don't require a big tank, a heater, and just plants like java fern to keep their tank clean.

Hello everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome. :)

I'm fairly busy... what would I do if I wanted to avoid daily water changes?

If you want to avoid daily water changes, you would definitely need a filtered tank. If you go with something other than the betta, make sure you overfilter and understock. Bettas don't like a lot of flow so you want to keep the filtration and flow down for them. Overfiltering and understocking would most likely give you the opportuniy to go a couple weeks between water changes as the nitrate wouldn't build up very fast and the filter would definitely be able to handle the waste.

Thanks!

Hrm... it looks like betta it is...

With luck, you may have pictures of my first fish soon.

Aaaand I just got plants. I figure if I can keep the plants alive until February, I'm in good shape to get a fish. :)
